YWCA Bodija Methodist Church Celebrates 40th Anniversary In Style


It was celebration galore on Sunday, 14th July, 2024, when Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) of Methodist Church Nigeria, Bodija, Ibadan, celebrated its 40th anniversary in grand style.

The weeklong celebration was marked with different activities centered on special prayers and charity works. It kicked off on Monday, July 8, with YWCA members weekly Bible Study. On Wednesday, July 10, there was special prayer for YWCA, the church and Nigeria generally.

By Friday, July 12th, medical personnel were on ground to give health talk on care of teeth, after which consultation and treatment were conducted.

A good number of food items ranging from rice, yam, noodles e.t.c were distributed to the less privilege at the church promises on Saturday, July 13.

The climax of the anniversary celebration, however, was on Sunday, July 14 with Thanksgiving Service at Bodija Methodist Church, and later a colourful reception at Pentonrise Events Centre, Bodija, Ibadan.

It was indeed a momentous occasion not only for the President of the association Dame Ronke Thomas but all members of Bodija Methodist YWCA.

The occasion was also a gathering of who-is-who in the society who turned out to share in the joyful moment of the association.

Some of the top celebrities at the anniversary ceremony include Chief Olaide Idowu, chairman of the occasion; Chief Morounke Faloyin Badejo, chairlady; Bro Tunde Fagbemi, who was the chief launcher and Dr Frances Kopuluyi.

Others are Prof. ABO Desalu, Pa Olu Akinsaya, Lady M.A Kujore, Chief (Mrs) Bola Doherty, Lady Princess Bukola Adeniran, Iyabode ACY Durosaro, Prof. Doyin Soyibo, Mrs Ade Ajayi, Mrs V.O Adeyemi, Barr. Niyi Ijalaye, Prof. Ayo Arowojolu, Mrs E.S Adigun, Princess Femi Thomas, Sir Bola Ogunsanwo, Sir Olumeko, among others.

The young women's Christian Association (YWCA) is the oldest and largest interdenominational and international movement of Christian women. It emerged from the Union of the women Association in Great Britain, U.S.A, Sweden, and Norway in 1894, and got to Nigeria, precisely Lagos in 1906 and in Ibadan in 1947.

The motto of the Association is "By love Serve One Another". It is the first "Women's League of Nations".

The Ibadan branch of YWCA was inaugurated in 1947 by lady Alakija, Miss Aidney and some YWCA workers from the parent body in Lagos.

The Bodija wing of the association was introduced to Bodija Methodist Church by Sister M.T Akinsanya and Lady C.O Soyibo in 1983.

Members of the current Exco of the association at Bodija Methodist Church include Dame Ronke Thomas as President; Sister V.S Dada, Vice President; Mrs Adeola Bolaji, Social Secretary; Mrs Ilori Tolulope F., PRP; Mrs Bunmi Odebiyi, Auditor; Mrs Tolu Oyaniyi, Financial Secretary; Sister Mary Oluyemisi Ogunjide, Treasurer; Sister Foluke Adeoye, Secretary; Sister Akinbode Mary, Assistant Secretary; Mrs Jullian Kawoe, Assistant Secretary, and Mrs Funke Faoye as Ex-Officio.
