The just ended year 2022 witnessed many marriages crash, in and outside of the Showbiz industry. But, the crash of the marriages of celebrities usually go viral because they are the centre of attraction.
They are role models to a large number of people, who look up to them for guidance. Many of the marriages looked like a match made in heaven but they ended up going their separate ways.
In this report, City People present to you 20 showbiz marriages that crashed in 2022. Suffice to say that the crashes came as a surprise to many.
Popular Comedian and all-round entertainer, Bright Okpocha aka Basket Mouth surprised many fans when he announced his marriage break-up with his wife of 12 years, Elsie, on Instagram. He pleaded that their privacy should be respected. According to him, “As much as it pains me to bring my personal life to the public space, it came as an unavoidable situation. After much (sic) deliberations, my wife and I have made the difficult decision to end our marriage.
“As we move forward separately, we will continue to work together to give our children all the care, love, guidance and support they need. We humbly ask that you respect our privacy, as we navigate through these times”
Even with this statement, many concluded it was a prank. During the Christmas celebration, however, the family photograph went viral without him in it.
Funke Akindele and husband, JJC Skillz, had one of the most dramatic break-ups. Both tried as much as possible to hide stuff from social media, despite the fact that JJc Skillz’s son had revealed the true nature of their marriage online. They both tried acting up and covering up things, by attending events together and celebrating each other on their pages, but eventually, JJC Skillz revealed the truth to the general public on social media.
He wrote, “Dear friends and family, I need to let you know that Funke and I have separated. While it lasted, we shared a lot of things together and have created 2 beautiful children. We still have issues that need to be addressed, such as the custody and well being of our children, which is paramount and business interests, but I do not doubt that they would be resolved one way or the other”.
Paul Okoye and Anita Okoye. This beautiful twosome had a glamorous wedding 8 years ago and their break-up took many by surprise. The couple met in 2004 during their undergraduate days at the University of Abuja. They got married on March 22th, 2014 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The union produced 3 children. She requested the dissolution of the marriage with Paul on grounds infidelity. She alleged absentee parenthood, fraud, and painful experiences That was why the marriage was dissolved a few weeks ago.
Popular Comedian, Julius Agwu also confirmed his marriage break-up with his wife, Ibiere. It also went viral that cheating on the part of Julius Agwu was the major reason the marriage fell apart. But the comedian-cum-musician revealed his wife told him that she was tired of the marriage.
Korra Obidi is a popular singer and dancer formerly married to Justin Dean. They had one of the most controversial marriage break-ups of 2022. Her husband, Dean, revealed that he had filed a divorce suit to end the marriage with the singer. He admitted that it was the hardest decision of his life. He added he was leaving the marriage because of his mental health. He promised to fight for the custody of their two daughters.
Another very surprising break-up in 2022 was that of Oritsefemi and his pretty wife, Nabila. A few months ago, Nabila revealed that her marriage with Oritsefemi had crashed. She accused the singer of cheating, adding that, they were going through a divorce process after she discovered that the singer had welcomed a child with another woman, while they were still married.
Before his marriage to Nabila, Oritsefemi had 2 daughters from 2 different women, which Nabila accepted as her own. Highly celebrated dancer, Kafayat Shafau, aka Kaffy also opened up on her separation from her husband, Joseph Ameh.

He filed for divorce over an alleged forced abortion, domestic violence, and emotional abuse. The two got married in 2013 and the union was blessed with 2 children. The court granted them divided custody of the children.
Veteran Actor, Saint Obi, took a long time to settle down, and his break-up came as a surprise to many. Their separation was equally very messy. They both battled for the custody of their 3 children.
Rapper John Njenga-Njong, popularly known as Skales, had one of the most controversial marriage break-up in 2022. He married Precious Hassanity, a Chef, in September 2021. Their separation was so messy that he shared a section of the unreleased track, where he told his wife, that he never knew he was married to a devil.
Adesina Adeleke aka Sina Rambo and his pretty Nigerian-German wife, Heidi Korth, are one of the latest break-ups. Sina Rambo is the son of the Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, and a cousin to Davido. His wife called him out on social media and accused him and his sister of violence and lies.

Highly celebrated Yoruba couple, Yewande Adekoya and husband, Abiodun Thomas’ marriage also crashed on the grounds of emotional abuse. According to Yewande, her husband abused her emotionally for 14 years, neglecting her and getting involved with different women.
Star actress, Chacha Eke and Film maker husband, Austin Fanni’s marriage also crashed in 2022. She announced the end to their 9-year-ild marriage for the second time. She alleged domestic violence as reason for their separation. But, Austin Fanni denied the allegation. The marriage was blessed with 4 adorable children.
Popular Yoruba comic Actor, Olaniyi Afonja a.k.a Sanyeri, and wife Omolara Olaiya’s marriage also crashed in 2022. Many thought the couple had everything going well in their marriage until a few months ago, when Omolara opened up through a post on IG that she and her husband have been separated for nine years. She said she maintains a cordial relationship with the actor for the sake of their children, and also chose happiness over drama.
