A former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Oloye Adebayo Adelabu has emerged as the gubernatorial candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC for the next election in the state. Seyi Makinde has emerged the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP).  Makinsde, at the party's primary held at the historic Obafemi Awolowo Stadium (formerly Liberty Stadium), polled a total of 2,772 votes to beat his rival Senator Ayo Adeseun who scored 21 votes. 141 votes were recorded.
