Popular Socialite, Jide Odekunle Dies From COVID-19

Both Lagos and Ibadan social circles have been thrown into a deep mourning again, as a prominent member, Chief Jide Odekunle dies. The two cities, in less than a month, have lost five prominent men to death.

The Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District in Nigeria's Upper Chamber, Adebayo Osinowo popularly known as Pepper died on 15 June, 2020; the former governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi died on 25 June then followed by the business mogul and the Parakoyi of Ibadan land, Chief Bode Akindele. Another popular socialite Alhaji Yahaya Busari also died within that period and now Jide Odekunle.

Odekunle, the former general manager of Lagos State Infrastructure Maintenance and Regulatory Agency (LASMIRA), was said to have died from COVID-19 complications at the Onikan Isolation Centre, on Saturday 4 July, 2020.

Chief Jide Odekunle, in his lifetime was a successful businessman and a technocrat. He was quite socialbale and popular too. His connection cuts across not only the corporate world but also business, social and political circles.

The Bobagunwa of Egbaland was very stylish and a power dresser. He was also a humble gentleman and was well loved.

If not for the coronavirus pandemic, he was planning a mega 90th birthday celebration for his mother-in-law in Ibadan. Where he also had some of his close friends (Ibadan was like his second home).

In fact, the party had already been fixed for Sunday 3rd May, 2020, before the coronavirus outbreak.

He will definitely be solely missed not only by his immediate family but also by his friends and associates. He belonged to many key elite clubs in Lagos. He was a member of Ikoyi Club, Island Club just to mention but few of several social clubs he belonged to.

Jide Odekunle was also very close to the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo 111.

May his gentle soul rest in peace.
