"Cybercrime In Nigeria Is Horrible"-Buhari.

Senator Abdulfatai Buhari, the senator representing Oyo North and Chairman, Committe on ICT and Cybercrime, has described as pathetic the high rate of cybercrime in the country.
Describing the situation as horrible, during the maiden edition of the South West Group of Online Publishers (SWEGOP)'s Breakfast Media Chat, where he was a guest.

The event, held on Wednesday 30th November, 2016, at the SWEGOP office, CEOAfrica Building, Jericho, Ibadan, did not only avail the distinguished senator an opportunity to address some pressing national issues but also served as avenue for him to give stewardship of representation of his constituency in the past years.

Oyo Holds Town Hall Meeting Thursday, Launches Education Policy.

The Oyo State Government will hold a town hall meeting on Thursday, December 1, 2016 to update the citizens about the recent developments in the state and to formally present its new education policy as contained in the recently released White Paper on the report of a Committee on Participatory Management of Schools to review the educational status of the State.

The state commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr. Toye Arulogun who made this disclosure in a statement in Ibadan on Tuesday, said that the town hall meeting which will give the citizens the opportunity to have robust deliberations with Governor Abiola Ajimobi and his team  will hold at the University of Ibadan Conference Centre by 10am.

Arulogun stated that the government believes in engaging its stakeholders on its policies and activities saying that the government is ready to fully implement the White Paper Gazetted publication of the Oyo State Government No.26 Vol 41 which has led to the creation of School Governing Board (SGB) that will provide management functions for each secondary school in the state to meet performance target and improve the quality of the state’s education sector.

The government spokesman emphasized that the deteriorating standards in Public Schools has led to loss of faith among the population and the consignment of mass exodus of pupils from public to prate schools, adding “it is therefore not out of place at this stage of our development to re-evaluate, re-orientate and restore our public school system and take measures to revolutionize their operation for the ultimate good of the society.”

“To this end, the SGB model which would be in two categories with membership drawn from accredited representative of Parent-Teacher Association, accredited representative of Old Students’ Association, accredited non-partisan Community leader, the Head Boy/Head Girl of the school, the School Principal to serve as Secretary, the Local Inspector of Education (LIE), representative of Local Govt. Council/LCDA and identified philanthropists is expected to improve the Quality of school programmes.

“The SGB shall also see to the efficiency of teachers and thereby raising students’ achievement level, provision of adequate teaching and learning resources, full participation of stakeholders in management and effective management of schools among others,” the commissioner stressed.

Arulogun said that the School’s Governing Board (SGB) will be mandated to make efforts to resuscitate school sports and games and improve Information and Communication Technology (lCT) education in Oyo State in order to meet up with the global revolution in lCT, explaining that the era of thousands of students failing WAEC Examination will be a thing of the past.

He further added that all stakeholders in the education sector are invited to be part of this epoch making event that is expected to herald the government's commitment to revive the education sector in the state.

Brazilian Tourists Pledge To Promote Yoruba Culture.

The drive by the Oyo State Government to promote cultural tourism in the state has started yielding positive results, as some Brazilian tourists arrived Oyo State last week on a tour of sites and discussions on the development of a partnership between the Yoruba culture in Bahia, Brazil and Oyo State with a view to evolving a tourism axis in major cities of the Yoruba race. 

Receiving the tourists led by Baba L’Orisa, Leopoldino Alves De Campos also known as Baba Ogundare, the Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr. Toye Arulogun said that it was expedient to promote the potentials in the cultural tourism sector of the state, saying that the Ministry’s recent meetings with the Brazilian Embassies in Abuja and Lagos have started yielding fruits manifesting in the visit of the first set of Brazilians who have come to Oyo state on a cultural tourism mission.

Arulogun said that the State government is committed to the Yoruba cultural exchange with the Brazilians, adding, “we are aware that there is a strong inter-cultural relationship between the Yorubas here and those in Brazil, especially Bahia, where they do things in common with us in the South western part of the country.  
We are ready to help them to trace their cultural origin. This will lead to the official connection between Brazil and Nigeria and promote the two countries’ relationship. Hopefully we would soon have a twin city arrangement and understanding”

In his response, the leader of the delegation, Leopoldino Alves De Campos said it excites Brazilians to visit Nigeria, especially the South Western part of the country which shares the same cultural values with Brazil noting that there are several thousands of Yoruba traditional worship centres in the country.

He promised that they are ready to preserve the culture and tradition of the Yoruba heritage, noting that many Brazilians are enthusiastic take a trip down to Nigeria, in order to further rediscover their origin.

Leopoldino Alves De Campos said the team will visit the Oke’badan shrine and Oje market in Ibadan, Egungun initiation centre in Oyo, the Igbo oranmiyan in Ile-ife and other tourist attraction centres in the South west region of the country.

It would be recalled that the Honourable Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr. Arulogun paid a working visit to the Brazilian Ambassador and Consular General at different times and the two parties agreed on a bilateral relationship that will further unite Nigeria and Brazil as well as strengthening the ties between the Yoruba culture in Bahir, Brazil and Oyo State.

Football Legend, Pele In Akwa Ibom's $3k Scandal.

As you read this and if things favourably fall in place for the Akwa Ibom Government then the world renowned Brazilian football wizard, Edson Arantes do Nascimento popularly known as Pele should be getting ready to return the total sum of $300,00 (about #135 million) back to the Akwa Ibom State Government. Being appearance fee paid him to grace the opening of the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo two years ago, which he failed to.
