Vote APC Candidates In All Elections, Tinubu Charges Supporters In Ilorin

Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Ilorin on Tuesday charged the  people of Kwara State to vote for him and all APC candidates in the coming general elections in order to cement the freedom from exploitation they achieved four years ago.

A press statement signed by Tinubu's media man, Tunde Rahman indicated that Asíwájú Tinubu and his entourage virtually shut down Ilorin, the state capital, as the mammoth crowd that thronged the Metropolitan Square venue of the rally spilled across the roads and all over the ancient city.

It took well over two hours for the Asíwájú train to arrive at the square from the Ilorin Airport.

Speaking at the rally, Tinubu told the people that they had been enjoying freedom and progress under the leadership of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, urging them to remain committed to the administration.

"Are you going to be committed to the freedom that you have been enjoying under Governor Abdulrazaq?

Are you going to cement that freedom? Do you have your PVCs?"

Thanking them for believing in the governor and for being committed to his re-election, Asiwaju Tinubu said: "On February 25th, we will need you to come out. You don't vote for anybody else, you vote for me, you vote for the APC. Vote APC across all levels - Presidential, National Assembly, Governorship and State House of Assembly elections."

The APC Presidential candidate, in his prepared speech, again warned Nigerians never to be deceived into voting the opposition Peoples Democratic Party in next month’s election, saying a vote for PDP would be an error that will be hard to correct.

According to him, several facts have pointed to the fact that the PDP Presidential Candidate Atiku Abubakar is only interested in the presidential race to enrich himself and his friends.

He said just like he did in the past, if given the opportunity again, Atiku would only sell Nigeria to his shady friends in the name of privatization.

He said: “You earned a favorable and great place in the history of our progressive party and of the nation when you voted for the APC to chase the PDP out of this beautiful and historic town. You kicked them out and now they want to come back.

“Do not let them back in.  They only want to devour what they could not take the first time.  If you give them the chance, they will strip Kwara and Nigeria bare to the bone.

“The PDP candidate in the race is well known for selling everything that has the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s name on it.  If it is part of the public treasure or national patrimony, he is looking to pawn it to one of his shady partners.

“He wants to sell off your chance at a decent job, good schools, a nice home and a happy life. His aim is to sell and turn our public assets into his private profit.  He wants you to go hungry so that he can feast off the abundance of the land.”

Tinubu also dwelt on the recent revelation by one of Atiku’s former aides Michael Achimugu where the former vice president himself admitted to setting up Special Purpose Vehicle companies to siphon the country’s funds.

“Before today, we used to call him Mr. Privatize. But today, we must give him a new name. One that comes from his own mouth.

“He is now Mr. SPV. From his own mouth, we have heard him admit that he and his old boss conspired to rob from the Nigerian treasury millions upon millions of dollars. They did this by using a fancy business device called an SPV, Special purpose vehicle, to hide the money.

“By his antics, Atiku has changed the meaning of SPV. It is no longer a business unit. With him, it is a money-eating monster. From henceforth, Atiku shall be known as MR. SPV. S for Stealing, P for Plunder and V for Vicious.

“For this is a vicious assault on the public funds, public welfare and on the public conscience.  How can he so brazenly steal and plunder yet ask you to return him to the scene of the crime. He wants to return to the crime scene not to repent but to repeat the Stealing Plundering and Viciousness.

“You must stop him before he stops your dreams and aspirations for a better Nigeria.”

He said the APC just like it has done in the about eight years of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, has shown that it means well for the country and its citizens, promising to continue with this.

“Instead, the APC has a much better way for you. We have good and positive plans for this country.

“If you give us the mandate with your vote, we will carry Kwara and the rest of the country to a more prosperous and secure future,” he added.

He promised to take advantage of the agricultural resources in abundance in Kwara to transform the state for the creation of jobs and welfare of the citizens.

He added, “We will return farming to its glorious past of profitability. Farmers will be paid the full value of their toil and their produce. This will be achieved through Commodity Exchange boards setting a minimum price for strategic agricultural produce.

“We shall create agricultural hubs throughout Nigeria. These hubs will increase land under cultivation. They will also wed small, medium and large farms so that small farms will benefit from the expertise and equipment of the larger ones.

“We shall continue the progress made by the present administration by enhancing agricultural productivity and agro-allied industry. We will boost our production so that we turn our country of importers into one of exporters. We have the experience and the will to make it happen.”

Speaking on education, he said, “We will prioritize education as a tool for empowerment. It is not just about producing more and more graduates. We will improve the quality of our education to make our youths more productive and will reform education such that our able and energetic young people are given the skills and knowledge needed to fill the jobs and compete in the economy of the future.”

The APC candidate also did not fail to mention his plans to ensure that the country is secure and conducive for everyone to move around unhindered and without fear.

“We will secure our nation and our borders through recruiting and deploying more security personnel, improving the communications, equipment and training of our personnel as well as using top shelf technology to improve ground and aerial surveillance.

“These evil crime, kidnapping and terror networks want to put a roadblock in the way of your destiny and future. But we shall take up our progressive broom and sweep away their evil doings so that we can move forward to our nation’s best destiny,” he added.

Kwara State Governor Abdulrasaq thanked the people of the state for the massive turn out while also urging them not to allow "those who stole your future, who could not pay your salaries and pensions to return to power."

The rally was attended by APC National Chairman Abdullahi Adamu, Vice Presidential Candidate Kashim Shettima  Director-General of the Tinubu-Shettima Campaign and Governor of Plateau Simon Lalong, Governor Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger State, APC Deputy National Chairman (North) Senator Abubakar Kyari and members of the party's National Working Committee among others.

How Top Entertainer Tried To Make Me His Gay Partner - Kunle Remi

Nollywood actor has recalled his encounter with a “top” entertainer who attempted to make him his gay partner.

In an interview on OAP Nedu’s ‘Honest Bunch’ podcast, the actor said the entertainer, whose identity was not revealed, promised to make him popular and wealthy.

The film star said the entertainer had bragged about his “connections,” adding that “I was not selected for the reality show, (Gulder Ultimate search) because I’ve not paid my dues”.

Remi said, “Before I got into the industry, the first time I went to the Ultimate Search. I got denied. The second time, my friend at the University of Ibadan (then I was in UI) said there is this one of his friends, he’s an entertainer he’ll guide you.

“And then I travelled a distance to somewhere around Iyana-Ipaja. Never been there. I was from Ibadan. I had a friend on this side. I got to his place. The guy looks at me. He sizes me up and says come in. I didn’t feel anything about him.

“This is in the spirit of networking and meeting people. When I got there, the n***a starts to call out names and starts to talk that why do I think they didn’t select me for Ultimate Search. That is because I’ve not paid my dues. This  n***a sells the whole ‘fruitish’ thing to me in a big way that I was ‘awe’.

We’ll Leave Legacy Of Quality Education In Oyo - Makinde

Oyo State governor, 'Seyi Makinde, on Tuesday, inaugurated the  Implementation   Committee for the Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, tasking the committee to make the university the number one education degree  awarding  institution in Nigeria.

Governor Makinde, who stated this while inaugurating the committee members at the Executive Chamber of the Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan, said that his administration will leave a legacy of quality education in Oyo State.

While charging members of the committee to work out the policy and process by which the institution will be run, the governor said that the new university of education will soon become a topmost institution in Nigeria for the acquisition of degrees in the field of education.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, quoted the governor as charging the members of the committee to bring their experience to bear in the discharge of the duty given to them.

The implementation committee is headed by Prof. A.O. Omole of the Universityof Ibadan.

The governor said: “The inauguration is a big step for us towards realising our goal to make EACOED the number one designation to obtain a degree in education in Nigeria. As politicians, I am always worried about how we will be remembered when we leave office. "But the real legacy that we can leave behind is something that we can leave in the people, something that will better their lives. And by this definition, education is the best legacy that we can bequeath to the future generation.

“What we are about to do is to put into proper perspectives the work of the committee that we are inaugurating today. "So, the task ahead of you is to create the policies and processes by which this institution will be run, because it won’t be an easy task.

“This is a greenfield project and I know that your task is not an easy one. You are pioneers and this is not because you are doing something no one has ever done but you will be the first to chart this course for Emmanuel Alayande University of Education.

“So, you are breaking new grounds and showing us the best way things can be done so that everything works out as intended and even surpasses expectations.

“For me, we are sure that you are up to the task, looking at the calibre of people in this committee and the decades of experience that you have, working in the area of education. "We are assured that you will bring this expertise to bear as you fulfill this new role.

“I am sure that every member of this committee will also want to leave a legacy. Of course, we know that it is not the aesthetics of the building that matters. Yes, that is important but what is of greater importance is what the students will take with them when they leave the school. "So, it is our firm belief that this committee will develop a pathway that will lead to the best outcome for this institution.

“The thought you should have in mind is that we are looking to create a shop for human resources to come and find the best talents that will run our schools, bearing in mind that teachers know the thoughts of their students. It means that what we are inaugurating here today has the potential to shape the thoughts of many generations to come.

“Let me use this opportunity to address the criticisms some have raised regarding this institution. Some have asked why Oyo State needs another university because we already have LAUTECH. So, the concern is centred around how the university will be funded. "Well, we had similar concerns when we started the process of getting the sole ownership of LAUTECH.

“When we came in as an administration, for LAUTECH, the system we met on ground was Oyo State paying the subvention from January to June while Osun State paid from July to December. When I came in, I paid the one for May and June and was expecting that Osun will take over, but we were having stories.

“So, Professor Omole and I started discussing and concluded that we would go after the sole ownership anyway. We might have well just start paying.

“And then, when I went to NUC to ask for the sole ownership about four months later, that was one of the strongest points for us to say, look, they cannot say we won’t pay because we have been paying for this and that.

“So, we have demonstrated that capacity and my answer is that those critics, who are not even our regular supporters, should vote for Omituntun 2.0, and then, we will show how we can repeat the same feat.”

In his remarks, the chairman of the implementation committee, Professor Omole appreciated the governor for the opportunity given to him and other members to serve the state in the new capacity.

He maintained  that the assignment before the committee is not new but that it is a big task that must be accomplished.

Omole, therefore, promised that the committee will do its best to be able to deliver in good time, saying the committee will discharge its duties with courage and integrity.

“On behalf of my team, I want to appreciate the governor again for giving us this opportunity to serve the good people of Oyo State and Nigeria as a whole.”

Members of the committee include: Professor J.O. Ajiboye, Dr. Noel Saliu, Professor Mathew Odedokun, Professor Bisi Ojebola, Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Barr. Abdulrahman Abdulraheem, Commissioner for Finance, Commissioner for Justice, Prof. Oyelowo Oyewo, Commissioner for Public Works, Prof Dahud Sangodoyin, Mr. Idowu Olukunle Adeosun, two representatives of Staff Unions (Academic &Non-Academic), Director of Higher Education.

The secretariat committee members are: Professor Adelaja Odukoya, Professor Olumide Olajide, Dr. Babatunde Onasanya, Dr. Abiodun Akintunde-Alo, Dr. Oluwaseun Garuba, Mr. Toyese Lawal (Est. Surveyor), Mr. Olufisayo Ogunjimi (QS) and Mr. Adeoye  Oyewusi.

UK Teachers Announce Strike Over Pay

Industrial action looked set to intensify on Monday after Britain’s largest teaching union announced a series of strike days over pay next month in England and Wales.

The National Education Union (NEU) said its members voted overwhelmingly to walk out as part of calls for an above-inflation pay rise.

The announcement came as public sector workers hold a wave of walkouts for salaries to take into account double-digit inflation.

“We believe the government knows there needs to be a correction on teacher pay,” NEU joint general secretary Kevin Courtney said in a live-streamed meeting with members.

The union leaders are set to meet the education minister on Wednesday.

“They know that we mean business. They know that you are prepared to take action to protect your jobs, to protect your pay and costs and to protect your ability to remain in the profession,” added fellow joint general secretary Mary Bousted.

The union announced a national strike day on February 1, followed by a series of more regional strikes over six days in February and March.

It said each school will only be affected for four days.

But it will cause immediate concern among parents, who have seen their children’s education severely disrupted in recent years by the coronavirus pandemic.

Members of the Educational Institute of Scotland union on Wednesday began 16 days of rolling stoppages until February 6. There have been previous strikes in December and earlier this month.

This week nurses in England, Wales and Northern Ireland were also due to resume strike action on Wednesday and Thursday.

Paramedics and ambulance workers are set to decide this week on further strike action, heaping pressure on the state-run National Health Service as it battles to recover from Covid delays to treatment and a staffing crisis.
