Oyo To Employ State Counsels.

The Oyo State Government has fixed November 1, 2017 as the date for a written/weeding test for graduates of Law to be employed as the State Counsel on Grade Level 09 in the Oyo State Civil Service.

The Chairman, Oyo State Civil Service Commission, Mr. Joseph Oladele said that the test is in line with the approval of Governor Abiola Ajimobi to employ state counsels, adding that candidates who have obtained, submitted or updated their applications are invited to participate in the Written/Weeding Test holding on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at Simeon Adebo Staff Development Centre by 10. 00. a.m.

The Chairman explained that successful candidates in the written test would be invited for interview at the Civil Service Commission Complex at the date to be announced later, stressing that further enquiries could be made at room 49 of the State Civil Service Commission complex.

All You Need To Know About The Newly Appointed SGF, Boss Mustapha

For those who might be wondering about personality of the newly appointed Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha. His appointment was announced this afternoon by Mr. Femi Adesina, S.A on Media and Publicity to President Muhammadu Buhari. We can, however,  tell you for free that Boss Mustapha has been described as a thorough man with experience. A lawyer cum politician, who has been a progressive since he joined politics many years back. 

Mustapha, another Adamawa indigene, replaced Babachir David Lawal, who was formally relieved of his post today  following an indictment for awarding a questionable grass cutting contract, for which he was a beneficiary,  at an IDP camp.

Mr Mustapha attended Hong Secondary School, in Hong Adamawa state and North East College of Arts and Sciences Maiduguri Borno state, for his A-Level.

He then went to Ahmadu Bello University in 1976, where he  earned his Bachelor of Law (LL.B)  in 1979.

He was  called to bar in 1980. From 1980 to 1981, Mr Mustapha did the compulsory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC)  at the Directorate of Legal of legal Services at the Army Headquarters and participated in the review of Court Marshall Proceedings.

After the NYSC, Boss joined Sotesa Nigeria Limited, an Italian consultancy firm, as an Executive Director in charge of Administration, leaving in 1983 to join the law firm Messrs Onagoruwa & Co in Lagos.

He later established his own practice as  Principal Counsel in the firm Messrs Mustapha & Associates.

In 2000, the Obasanjo administration appointed him a member of Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the defunct Petroleum (Special) Trust Fund (PTF). He served  till 2007.

He returned to legal practice in 2007 as  Principal Partner of the law firm, Adroit Lex.

As a politician, he was a member Federal Republic of Nigeria Constituent Assembly (1988-1989), Chairman People’s Solidarity Party-Gongola State (1989-1990), state chairman, Social Democratic Party-Gongola State (1990-1991); he was even a gubernatorial candidate for SDP in Adamawa state in 1991.

He was also the Deputy National Chairman of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria from 2010 to 2013. In 2007, he again played a prominent role, serving as the Deputy Director General of the party’s Presidential campaign Organization. His services remained in high demand after the fusing of ACN   with other parties to form the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He was  Secretary APC Presidential Campaign Organization Mobilization (2015) and member, APC Transition Committee (2015). He is also a member, APC Board of Trustees.

Until his new appointment, the man called Boss, was the  Managing Director/CEO of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA).

Like Babachir Lawal, Boss is a Christian and he is the National Vice President, Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International Nigeria.

This was announced by Femi Adesina, Mr Buhari’s special adviser on media and publicity via Twitter.

The President also named Mr Boss Mustapha as the new SGF.

Buhari Sacks SGF Babashir Lawal, Names Mustapha As Replacement.

The Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, has announced on his twitter handle that the suspended Secretary General of the Federation , Babachir Lawal and Amb Ayo Oke, the former Director General of  National Intelligent Agency (NIA) have been sacked by president Buhari.

Though details of this development has not be ascertained but it was revealed that Mr. Boss Mustapha has since being named as the new SGF.

3SC Confirms Ex-Player, Agoye As New Coach.

The management of 3SC football club has confirmed the Chief Coach of the team, Olumide Edith Agoye, who is also an ex- player, as the substantive Head Coach for the next football season. 

 Agoye was the Chief Coach under Fatai Amoo as the Technical Adviser in the last dispensation.

The decision to make Agoye as the Head Coach was taken by the club management after an exhaustive interview session involving several coaches.

The club's Executive Chairman, Mr Gbolagade Busari said the management settled for Agoye primarily because of his knowledge about the composition of the team and to maintain continuity in the development of the young players who will form the fulcrum of the new Shooting Stars.

"Majority of our players are from the feeders and to continue inspiring their development, we felt Agoye is in good position to do this,” Mr. Busari said in a statement issued on Thursday afternoon in Ibadan. 

He further said the mandate given to the new Head Coach is to work assiduously to return the team to the elite of the Nigeria Premier League.

Oyo Secures Order To onduct Local Goverment Election.

Oyo State Government has secured an order that will facilitate the conduct of local government election in the state.

In a statement in Ibadan on Wednesday by the Commissioner for information, Culture and Tourism, Mr. Toye Arulogun quoting the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Oluwaseun Abimbola, the government stated that Order 3 of the interim injunction forbidding INEC from releasing the voters register to OYSIEC for conduct of elections into LGs and LCDAs has been discharged by the court.

According to Mr. Abimbola, “in respect of the case filed by Oyo baales challenging the LCDAs and in which the court had issued an injunction preventing the conduct of elections into LG&LCDAs. I made an application to the court to discharge the part of the Interim order preventing our conduct of elections into LGs since the subject matter of the suit is only on the propriety of LCDAs and not LGs.

“The other counsels in the matter all conceded to the point as canvassed by the Oyo State Government on this matter. Consequently, the Order 3 of the Interim injunction forbidding INEC from releasing voters register to OYSIEC for conduct of elections into LGs and LCDAs has been discharged by the court. Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) is now at liberty to conduct LG elections only, but not into LCDAs which is still pending in court,” the Attorney General explained.

Abimbola hoped that this would development would clear the air and misrepresentation by the people who believe that the state government was not interested in the conduct of the local government election, pointing out that the order secured is a demonstration to the fact that the state government is ready for the conduct of the election and the barrier has been removed.

Oyo, Microsoft Partnership To Provide 800 Computers For Digital Literacy.

The Oyo State Government on Wednesday disclosed that it is partnering Microsoft and Signal Alliance on its digital literacy programme, saying that 800 computers will be provided across eight centres as the pilot scheme.

The Government stated these during a press conference attended by representatives of Microsoft Nigeria, Signal Alliance, Tertiary Institutions, Schools Governing Board and other stakeholders   held at the Film Theatre of the State Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism in Ibadan.

Speaking at the conference, the Special Adviser to Governor Abiola Ajimobi on Education, Dr Bisi Akin-Alabi stated that the state would launch digital literacy centers to prepare the state towards producing a knowledgeable competent workforce in the country.

She explained that the state government cum Microsoft and Signal Alliance would give birth to eight centres with 100 computers each, stressing that four centres will be in Ibadan, two in Oke Ogun, 1 for Oyo/Ogbomoso Zone and One for Ibarapa zone.

Dr. Akin-Alabi said that the every student is expected to benefit from the digital literacy, noting that Microsoft has promised to give the state 700 computers every year to complement the state government’s efforts until each school in the state is covered.

According to her, “this digital literacy project was put on ground towards the Sustainable Development Goals in education in order to ensure wholesome offerings for all and to demonstrate the government commitment to delivery of the Sustainable Development Goals 4 (SDG) to bridge gaps in education provision. Oyo State government is collaborating with Microsoft and Signal Alliance to launch the digital literacy and cluster learning centers in the State. Initially, the government wanted to provide 3 Cluster Learning Centre (CLC) as a pilot scheme but the partnership with Microsoft and Signal Alliance increased it to eight.

“This is to improve access to qualitative education in the State by all private and public pupils. The Senator Abiola Ajimobi-led administration in Oyo State is set to launch a 21st Century Compliant digital literacy drive. This is another unprecedented move by the administration to prepare Oyo State for a knowledge-based future and make the State a hub for producing a knowledgeable competent workforce in Nigeria," Dr Akin- Alabi added.

In her comments, the Microsoft Head of Education Programs in Nigeria, Ms Jordan Belmonte said that the programme was built towards making Oyo State meet the global technological pace, saying that this project could put Nigeria on the digital technological map through the state.

Belmonte pledged Microsoft's commitment to lifelong education by providing education solutions and at the same time, promoting adoption of ICT in schools, stressing that the project will lead to institutional change and students can get certification which is recognized globally thereby giving Nigerian companies the opportunity to find the needed talent from their host community.  

She said "We are delighted to partner the Oyo State Government and Standard Alliance we believe that investment in education is a critical component of preparing youths for the global workforce and it is directly tied to a country's economic growth. Our mission is to ensure that we support this advancement in learning and the benefits it provides for Nigerian students. Microsoft Nigeria is committed to promoting lifelong learning by providing affordable access to education solutions and promoting the adoption of ICT in schools."

The representative of Signal Alliance, Mrs. Adamma Onoegbu said it was important to prepare graduates before joining the workforce so as to be sure of quality input into the nation's economy.

She said that technology should reach everywhere in Nigeria, hence the need to support the digital literacy drive of the Oyo State Government, assuring that the company will ensure that the objectives of the programme are realized.

The press conference was witnessed by the State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Adeniyi Olowofela, Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr. Toye Arulogun, Chairman, Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Mrs Aderonke Makanjuola among others.

Exclusive: World's Most Expensive House Up For Sale.

A luxurious mansion in the south of France is poised to become the most expensive sale of a residential home in history with a $410 million listing price, according to Bloomberg.

Built in 1830 in the Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat near Nice, Villa Les Cèdre sits on 35 acres decorated with 14,000 different species of plants, a man-made pond filled with lily pads, a bronze statue of Athena and 300-year-old olive trees, according to Bloomberg. The 18,000 square-foot mansion also boasts views of Villefranche-sur-Mer near Nice and the Maritime Alps.

Inside, the walls are decorated with portraits and a library in the home houses 3,000 books on plants, according to Bloomberg, which took a tour of the estate.

The property was purchased by the mayor of Villefranche-sur-Mer in 1850, when it was an olive tree farm. It also was a holiday home for Belgium King Leopold II when he bought the property in 1904. After he died, the Marnier-Lapostolle family, who make Grand Marnier Liquer, owned the property, where they grew exotic plants and oranges to help create their product for decades.

In 2016, Italian distiller Davide Campari-Milano SpA acquired Grand Marnier's parent company, thus taking ownership of Villa Les Cèdres. Campari put the property up for sale, which, at one point was reportedly listed for $1 billion — which Bloomberg reports was merely a rumor.

The property is close to others owned by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen and award-winning composer Andrew Lloyd Weber, Bloomberg said.

Davido Arrested Over Friend, Tagbo's Death.

Hip-hop singer, David Adeleke aka Davido, has been held by the police in Lagos for giving false information following the mysterious death of a friend that was on a night out with him.

According to NewsmakersNG, Davido is being held at the Lion Building Police Station in Lagos for questioning over Tagbo Umeike’s death.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Imohimi Edgal told journalists today at a briefing in Ikeja that the police were investigating a case of sudden and unnatural death which happened on September 3, 2017.

“Recall that actress, Caroline Danjuma, the victim’s fiancé, published on her Instagram page that her fiancé died in the company of friends including one David Adeleke aka Davido. To be objective and in my usual style of fact finding, I called for a pre-investigative meeting in my conference room. In that meeting were all parties including the family, friends of the deceased, family and friends of Davido and of course that of Danjuma and the DPO at Lion Building and the investigating police officer were also present.

“The meeting confirmed the following that Tagbo Umeike on the date in question met and had drinks with friends including Davido at Sushi Bar. The CCTV camera footage of the bar was called for and it also showed that the victim had 40 takes of Tequila. 

During that meeting, Davido said he left the bar for DNA night club. He stated that he was only informed of the victims’ death at DNA bar. 

However investigation conducted into the case has clearly revealed that one Tunde Yusufu, a driver and the driver of Davido’s white Toyota Hilux vehicle accompanied by one Agbaje Olaoye and one Idris Busare both Davido’s friends took the deceased to Lagos Island Hospital and abandoned him in the car in front of the hospital on the instruction of Davido.

The CCTV footage at General Hospital picked up the white Hilux vehicle and captured the entire incident. The vehicle was recovered at a resident at No. 7 Awosika Street, Lekki Phase One.”

The Patriarch of Awolowo’s family, late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State, former Governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Chairman, Elizade Toyota Nigeria Plc, Chief Micheal Ade-Ojo and First Female Broadcaster in Africa, Chief Mrs. Anike Agbaje-Williams were among prominent Nigerians honoured at the weekend at the maiden edition of Ibadan Mesiogo Golf Open Award.
The event tagged IMEGA Award 2017 held at the International Conference Centre, Ibadan was also used to honour former governor of the Western State, General David Jembewon (rtd), BOVAS Group Chairman, Architect Bamidele Samson, the multiple Paralympics Gold medalist in Weight Lifting, Yakubu Adesokan MON, and the Commader of Operation Burst while former governor of the Western Region, Late Adekunle Fajuyi, literary and Cultural Icon icon, Late Adebayo Faleti and the former Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Late Chief Omowale Kuye were also given post humous awards.

He thanked the Oyo State Government for providing the enabling environment for the people, increasing road infrastructure, improved security, saying that without the major achievements of the present administration, it would have been meaningless having the IMEGA week in Ibadan.

He asserted that the game of Golf is one of the tools government could tap into to restore Ibadan as an economic hub, noting that the game attracts decision makers, Chief Executives of multinational organizations, high net worth individuals and local investors across the world.

Among the awards presented were the Life time Achievement Award for the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo; Special Awards was given to Senator Abiola Ajimobi and Gen. David Jembewon (rtd), Heritage Award was given to late Alagba Faleti; Inspiration Award to Arch  and Mrs. Bamidele Samson, founders of Bovas Group and Legacy Award to Chief Micheal Ade-Ojo.  

Other awards were Heroes Awards given to Chief Olawale Kuye, Operation Burst, late Col. Adekunle Fajuyi, Chief Mrs. Anike Agbaje Williams and Yakubu Adesokan, while Special Recognition Awards was given to former Governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola and the IBB Golf Course won the Best Golf Course Award.

A long list of professional golfers, both local and international, such as Craig Hinton, Leigh Whitakker, Gift Willy, Liliana Alvarez, Emos Koblah, among others were in Ibadan for the maiden edition of the Ibadan Mesiogo Open.

"Davido Should Tell The World What Happened To Tagbo". Caroline Danjuma Bares It All.

Caroline Danjuma, in an exclusive interview, has talked on Davido's late friend, Tagbo. What transpired the night that the sad incident occurred and many other issues. 

Firstly I would like to address this whole razzmatazz about David killing Tagbo and that I said so, I never said that but yes, I did call out Davido to know the whereabouts of Tagbo but I never said he killed him, I never used that word ”Killed Tagbo”.

The last time I heard from Tagbo was on Monday when I just got back from MFM Church praise and worship which took about 7-8 hours Around past 8pm to ask me where I was. I had invited him for the programme but he didn't show up. He called and asked where I was and when I said I was home, he said he was coming over.

I was tired but didn't want to sleep off because if Tagbo comes he would ring the bell. So Iwent upstairs to watch CNN to keep myself awake until he comes and for some reason I slept off and woke up by part 1am or 2am and as you know the normal ritual was to call your friends the next day when they are celebrating their birthday.

I felt bad that I had not called Tagbo because Tuesday was his birthday. I tried calling him but his number was switched off but I thought it was network and continued trying but it was switched off and I concluded that maybe his battery was down.

I sent him a text message to wish him Happy Birthday and I went to bed. I woke up at 5-6am to do my normal routine and looked at my phone and there was no missed call or reply to my SMS. The day went on and I kept trying his number but until 3pm his number was switched off. I was out at the Bank when Tagbo’s childhood friend called me and said that he wanted to talk about tagbo,he was just asking random questions.

I told him I would call him back. I am aware that Tagbo was trying to do his Schengen visa so I called the guy helping him out to ask if she had heard from him but she said Tagbo was supposed to deliver some documents but had not.

I got home and called Kola back around 4pm and this was when Kola revealed to me that Tagbo was dead. I thought it was a joke because Tagbo does not drive carelessly, he doesn’t fight, he is not one to be seen in a place where people are fighting if he is angry he walks away. I was confused.

I decided to call the mum to find out if he went to Anambra to see his mum like he said he wanted to collect some documents. So I called the mum and she said she had not seen Tagbo. I sent the sister a message that I heard Tagbo was dead and she should help me find out if it was true. The sister replied asking ”how when and where”
and then I knew that she was unaware. So I decided to call my neighbour who was also Tagbo’s friend and my neighbor who was holidaying in Lebanon called me back and said that there was a bet of 200k and that Tagbo drank about 50 shots of tequila and I said that cannot be true. Tagbo cannot drink even a glass of Hennessy because he has a light brain like me .

So a guy who cannot drink this much cannot finish 50 shots of tequila. Tagbo does not need 200k to do that.
He comes from a very wealthy background so he does not need that kind of bet, he is not hungry for that. I was shattered to hear such a news,I went into my office and sat down.

I tried to find out where Tagbo was and Kola said he had been trying his best to find out but that each time he calls the people would drop the phone on him or tell him they would call back.

So for one hour and despite trying severally, we had not gotten any info to where Tagbos body was or what hospital he was taken to.
Tagbo’s friend Chucks made some calls and found out that Tagbo was taken to Lagos Island. Meanwhile someone who rented my Bar told me he was with Davido at Shisha Bar on Monday and then i asked him randomly ”oh then you must know tagbo” cos Davido and tagbo are close friends and the only reason tagbo would be there is if Davido was there. That is on that birthday eve

The guy confirmed he met Tagbo and that was when he knew they were birthday mate and he also said they had fun and went from there to DNA to party. This was all before I heard Tagbo had died. So my impression then was oh Tagbo was having fun and that was why he hadn’t gotten back to me.

I called the same guy when I heard Tagbo had died and asked him to find out what happened and he said he was trying to but every time he called Davido’s team and mentioned Tagbo’s name they would drop the phone on him and this was what they had also done to anyone who calls and mentions his name.
Davido knew and his crew knew Tagbo was dead at as 3a.m in the morning and they did not contact anyone,Davidos PA Lati knows where Tagbo stay but did not go to the house to inform anyone.

After we had that Tagbo's body was in Lagos island Davido's crew refused to give any info and this was about past 7pm. I contacted someone who remembers seeing Davido and Tagbo and DNA and remembers there was a fight.
This person also told me there was a bet and said the same thing my neighbour said but said 30 shots and not 50.

According to what was said, Tagbo drank the tequila and got intoxicated and wanted to drive his car but Davido refused and said Tagbo should drive with him, that was what I heard and that they drove to G12 beach and got out leaving Tagbo in the car all locked up and that one of the crew members came back saw tagbo gasping for air…this was the info they spread out there from a supposed eye witness.

He was taken to General Hospital where he was confirmed dead and they left him there.
We went there with Nabila and Mary who can confirm what was said. We were told that he was dumped and those who brought him ran away.

The doctor told us that when the nurse were trying to fix the card,the two people that brought him ran away and their footage could not identify those who brought him and ran cos they hid their faces with caps.
They refused to tell us anything, the Medical Director told us that because they ran away it was now a police matter and that we should go to the police station.
I posted online asking Davido why they abandoned Tagbo on my way to the police station because I was so angry and needed answers.

I sent Davido personal messages but he didn’t reply until I called him out on the social media and he told me to take down the post and he would tell me what happened. I took down the post and told him to come to the police station but he never showed up..Tagbo’s family members came from far but Davido and his manager did not show up.

Davido knew that tagbo was dead but kept quiet. He told the Police later that he would have spoken out if I didn’t call him out on the social media..can you imagine. Tagbo meant everything to a lot of people…his widowed mum who is recovering from an ailment ..I am pleading with anybody who has info on who drove Tagbo’s dead body to the hospital to come forward. We want to know what happened and how Tagbo died. Davido we are not calling you a killer but we need to know hat happened to Tagbo,you owe him this because he loved you like a brother, he took you like a brother, do it for him and call out the people you assigned to drive him…Please

NEMA Boss Abdulsalam Badamasi Slumps, Dies In A Hotel.

The Northeast Zonal coordinator of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Abdulsalam Badamasi is dead. He was reportedly slumped in a hotel room in Maiduguri, and later died at the hospital he was rushed to early hours of Friday.

NEMA Information Office, Mr Sanni Datti, confirmed the sad incident.  “Yes, He is dead, after he slumped at his room early hour on Friday and he was rushed to hospital but later gave up," Sanni said.

Meanwhile, it has before now reported that some staff of NEMA have threatened to embark on a nationwide strike over non-payment of N665 million staff claims.

The claims, tagged unverified, the staff said have been generating crisis between the workers and the management of the agency which said the claims are not verified.

There are reports that the workers who are under the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) are also protesting the transfer of the secretary of the Women Commission Member of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) Shiaibu Afusatu to Lagos.

"We Spent N177m To Bribe Nigerian Lawmakers"-Professor Cries Out After 40 Years Imprisonment Sentence.


A former director of the Institute of Agricultural Research and Training (IAR&T), Professor Benjamin Ogunbodede, who was sentenced to 40 years imprisonment on Tuesday, has claimed that he and two other convicts spent N177million naira to bribe lawmakers and some employees of the Federal Ministry of Finance.

Justice Nathaniel Ayo-Emmanuel of the Federal High Court, Ibadan, had on Tuesday, sentenced Ogunbodede, to 40 years imprisonment for corruptly enriching himself to the tune of N177 million.

Zacheus Tejumola, a former Chief Accountant of the institute, was also sentenced to 40 years imprisonment while Clement Adenose, another staff, bagged four years in jail.

In a judgment which lasted over two hours, Ayo-Emmanuel said that he convicted the trio based on the overwhelming evidence against them.

The judge, however, said that he had no reason to convict them on count 13 due to want of evidence. “There is no ambiguity in the facts tendered by the prosecution that the three convicts conspired, converted and stole the hazard allowance of N177 million belonging to the staff of IAR&T.

Ogunbodede and Tejumola are therefore, sentenced to 40 years imprisonment each for their roles for counts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 14, 15 and 16.

“Adenose is sentenced to four years in prison. The sentences will, however, run concurrently,” Ayo-Emmanuel stated.

However, Ogunmodede claims he and two other persons convicted alongside him spent N177m to bribe lawmakers and some employees of the Federal Ministry of Finance. They claimed that a huge part of the money was used to bribe members of House of Representatives and some staff of the Federal Ministry of Finance who facilitated the release of the fund for the research institute, Punch reports.

Earlier, Mr Tunde Olupona, the counsel to Ogunbodede, had pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy in sentencing his client. He argued that his client lacked administrative experience in running such a sensitive position.

Similarly, Mr I.A Salawu and Mrs Yetunde Adegboye, counsel to Tejumola and Adenose, pleaded with the court to show mercy to their clients, citing various portions of the constitution.

However, Mr Nkwuruka Amana, the counsel to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), urged the court to sentence the convicts in accordance with the stipulation of the law.

Ogunbodede, Tejumola and Adenose along with 10 others had since 2014 been standing trial over a 16-count charge bordering on conspiracy, unlawful conversion and stealing of N177 million hazard allowance belonging to the staff of the institute.

Ten of the defendants had earlier pleaded guilty and opted for plea bargain arrangement. Nine out of the 10 previously convicted were different companies which Ogunbodede, Tejumola and Adenose indirectly used to siphon the N177 million.

Olupona, who spoke after the judgment, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that he and his other colleagues were still studying the judgment and would in due course take appropriate decision on whether to appeal or not.

The conviction of the trio is coming on the heels of the directive by the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Walter Onnoghen, to heads of the divisions of courts to create special courts for corruption and financial crimes cases.

Onnoghen said this directive is to end the unnecessary delay associated with the prosecution of corruption cases.

The CJN also ordered that all lists of pending corruption cases in the various courts be forwarded to the NJC.

When Lagelu Grammar School Old Boys Reunite In Ibadan.

Influential Nigerians, groups and associations have been admonished to lend hands of support to governments at all levels to radically transform the country’s education sector.

This admonition was given by Professor (Chief) Emmanuel Olufemi Omisore of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife over the weekend while speaking at the 2017 Reunion of the 1982 set of old boys of Lagelu Grammar School, Ibadan.

Professor Omisore who is also the National President of Lagelu Grammar School Old Boys (LAGSOBA) explained further that the economic recession being experienced by the country has made it imperative for concerned groups and individuals to lift more than one finger in support of education in the country.

His words “when we take care of education, we take care of the future. The present generation of youths must be supported to acquire quality education. Governments at all levels must get their priorities right. Education should be given the kind of attention it requires.”

He also took time to salute members of LAGSOBA for doing a Yeoman’s job of keeping their alma mater in top shape and for contributing to the smoothness of the flow of education there.

“We thank God that Lagelu Old boys are excelling in all spheres and are everywhere all over the world. I am also proud that they love their alma mater and have been doing their very best to make it the best.

“Permit me to use this opportunity to urge them strongly to do more especially when we are about to mark the 60th anniversary of the school.”

Professor Omisore elaborated more on the 60th anniversary which comes up sometime in January, 2018.

“We have set up several committees that will work to ensure that the anniversary celebration records resounding success. We are insistent that we will use the opportunity to further transform the school and the lives of the present students and those coming behind them.”

Earlier in his speech, the Chairman of the set, Mr Sunday Amoo enumerated some of the contributions of the set towards the growth of the school.

According to him “we have been paying the WAEC fees of some indigent students in the school, we produced stools for students’ use at the laboratories among others.”

During the two-day reunion, LAGSOBA 1982 set members had the opportunity of being lectured on how to make money via agricultural practices.

A lecture on personal health was also delivered by one of them, Dr Kayode Afolabi who was a onetime Commissioner for Health in Oyo State. He is now a Director at the Federal Ministry of Health in Abuja.

Before Afolabi, another 1982 set member, Pastor Taiwo Otegbeye equally delivered a lecture on personal insurance policy choices. Otegbeye was also a former Commissioner for Information and Culture in Oyo State.

Another high point during the reunion was the official swearing in of the National Executives of the group led by Mr Sunday Amoo. They were sworn in by Colonel Bola Ogunsanwo (Rtd), the Chairman, Board of Trustees of LAGSOBA. He was earlier decorated as the ‘Role Model’ for the 1982 Set members. The set’s board of trustee was inaugurated too.

A gala night was held afterwards with many prizes won by members during the ‘raffle draw’ segment.

The two-day reunion was rounded off on the second day with a visit to the school at Agugu, Ibadan.

While speaking after the event, the new Chairman for LAGSOBA ’82, Mr Sunday Amoo thanked all who contributed to the success of the event.

Said Amoo “On behalf of LAGSOBA 82 set, I thank all who worked assiduously to ensure the success of our two-day reunion. We thank God that we enjoyed clement weather. We thank our national President, Professor Omisore and both Comrade Wale Adeoye, the National Secretary and Engineer Lukman Olateju, the National Financial Secretary who accompanied our President.

“We are also grateful to Colonel Bola Ogunsanwo, our Role Model for graciously accepting to identify with us.

I must specially thank the Diaspora-chairman for LAGSOBA 82, Pharmacist Sikiru Odediran for coming all the way from the US to attend. I can’t forget our Reunion Chairman and Member, Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon Tunde Braimoh who could not make this event because it falls on his birthday and he has to attend to his constituent in Lagos.

Ex-IAR&T Executive Director, 2 Others Bag 40 Years Imprisonment Over Diversion Of N177m.


A Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on Tuesday sentenced a Professor of Plant Reading and former Executive Director, Institute of Agricultural Research and Training (IAR&T), Ibadan, Professor Benjamin Ogunmodede to 40 years imprisonment without an option of fine.

Also sentenced alongside Ogunmodede are Mr. Zaccheus Tejumola and Adenekan Clement. Mr. Tejumade and Adenekan were chief accountant and staff of the institution during Ogunmodede’s tenure as Executive Director.

IPOB: Group Cautions FG On Handling The Crisis.

A Pan Yoruba Socio-political Group, Atayese, has cautioned the Federal Government on the handling of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) crisis, urging that negotiation should be embraced in order avoid a chaotic situation in the eastern part of the country.

The organization which is committed to the attainment of a Yoruba regional autonomy where each region develops at its own pace advises that every effort should be made towards preventing any situation that can degenerate to  another civil war.

Atayese, in the statement by its National Chairman, Chief Tokunbo Ajasin said that the calls for restructuring are very crucial at this stage and is happy that the APC, the party in control of the federal government has already taken the right step by instituting a public hearing for presentation of memoranda to its committee on true federalism. He however warned that this matter should not be treated as a mere distraction, but a strong move towards the fulfillment of the party’s manifesto.

He equally advised members of the IPOB to follow constitutional means to achieve their goals, adding that the violent steps being used would make their agitations less effective because they would not only lose the sympathy of the people but they would play into the hands of government might, no matter the justness of  their cause.

Atayese stressed that every citizen has the right to peaceful coexistence in any part of the country, pledging that it will always preach peace and harmony to the general public.

The group disclosed that it has submitted a position on its stand on the restructuring of the country during the APC Zonal Public Sitting on True Federalism, adding that similar step will be taken whenever the federal government starts the process of restructuring.  


110 Golfers Converge In Ibadan For Mesiogo OPEN.

About 110, both local and international, Golfers are expected to participate in the maiden edition of Ibadan Mesiogo Open starting tomorrow, October 4, 2017.

The Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr. Aboyomi Oke stated this on Tuesday in Ibadan, disclosing that the competition is being organized in conjunction with the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes and 3e Actuaries.

Mr. Oke explained that 69 local golfers and 41 foreigners from 18 countries are being expected to be part of the competition that ends on Sunday, October 8, 2017.

The commissioner said that the competition will start with IMEGA Women Empowerment and Fund Ceremony tomorrow while the State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi will tee off the golf Competition for professional golfers at Ibadan Golf Club on Thursday, October 5, 2017.

Oke added that IMEGA 2017 Awards Gala will hold on Saturday, October 7, 2017 and the IMEGA Amateur Open for Ameteur Golfer at the Ibadan Glof Club will hold on October 8, 2017. 

Oyo To Blacklist Contractors With Shoddy Jobs.

The Oyo State government has warned that it would blacklist any contractor that poorly executes its project emphasizing the need for quality and timely delivery.

The state commissioner for Works and Transport, Mr. Wasiu Dauda gave this warning over the weekend during the inspection of ongoing road projects within Ibadan metropolis.
Mr. Dauda, who was on an on-the-spot assessment with the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Oyesola Oyedele, charged all contractors handling various projects in the state to ensure that the projects are completed within the stipulated contract period and in line with the contract’s specification.

He noted that the government will not accept any contract that is below its quality specification, adding that all projects being executed are expected to meet the expectation of the people of Oyo State.

The Commissioner inspected Challenge-Efunsetan to Orita Challenge Phase II, Ibadan (Eleyele) Eruwa road, Idi -Ape Bashorun Odogbo Baracks, Oke-Adu- Agodi-Gate Iwo road interchange and Agodi- gate-old Ice road to Alakia Airport road and expressed satisfaction with the level of work done on the road projects so far.

He commended some of the contractors for complementing the efforts of the state government towards infrastructural development and consequently directed the contractor handling the Challenge- Efunsetan Phase II road to present his schedule of work done on the site before accessing more funds.

The Commissioner expressed displeasure with the pace of work done on site at Idi Ape - Bashorun road, charging the contractor to intensify efforts on the level of work and be committed to completing the project during the stipulated time.

Mr. Dauda reiterated that all the road projects embarked upon by Governor Abiola Ajimobi’s administration would not be affected by the present state of the economy, assuring that all projects would be completed.

Come Saturday October 21st 2017, the Abuja social establishment is going to play host to what could be best described as the mega party of the year. As top politician Dame (Mrs.) Uju Uchendu Ozoka (Esq)'s son, Odera Jordan Ozoka weds in style.

Traditional wedding, attended by prominent celebrities like the Innoson Motors boss Chief Innocent Ifediaso Chukwuma, Chief Vincent Jideofor and many others, was held early this year on Saturday 4th January, 2017, at Agba's Compound, Okofia, Otolo Nnewi, Anambra State.

Engineer Odera is a modern film producer and three time Holywood award winner; Best Film by an Africa Film Maker in Diaspora, Museum of Tolerannce film festival (the British Museum) and Houston  Museum of African culture. He is currently running his Masters Degree at Harvard University, Boston, USA. My dear Nigerians,

October 1st remains a special date for all Nigerians as this marks the day when we attained one of the most precious of human desires — freedom.

Over the years the country has gone through trials and tribulations, but October 1st is always a day for celebrations.

It is a day for thanks giving, reflection and re-dedication.

It is also a day for remembrance. We should remind ourselves of the recent journey from 1999 – 2015, when our country happily returned to democratic rule.

However, in spite of oil prices being an average of $100 per barrel and about 2.1m barrels a day, that great piece of luck was squandered and the country’s social and physical infrastructure neglected.

We were left with no savings and huge infrastructure deficit.

The APC Government’s Campaign rallying cry to restore security, re-balance the economy and fight corruption was not all rhetoric.

The country must first be secured. The economy must be re-balanced so that we do not depend on oil alone. We must fight corruption which is Nigeria’s Number One Enemy. Our Administration is tackling these tasks in earnest.

In the past two years, Nigeria has ecorded appreciable gains in political freedom. A political Party at the Centre losing elections of State Governor, National Assembly seat and even State Assemblies to the opposition parties is new to Nigeria. Added to these are complete freedom to associate, to hold and disseminate opinions. Such developments clearly attest to the country’s growing political development. But like all freedoms, this is open to abuse.

Recent calls on re-structuring, quite proper in a legitimate debate, has let in highly irresponsible groups to call for dismemberment of the country. We can not and we will not allow such advocacy.

As a young Army Officer, I took part from the beginning to the end in our tragic civil war costing about 2m lives, resulting in fearful destruction and untold suffering. Those who are agitating for a re-run were not born by 1967 and have no idea of the horrendous consequences of the civil conflict which we went through.

I am very disappointed that responsible leaders of these communities do not warn their hot-headed youths what the country went through. Those who were there should tell those who were not there, the consequences of such folly.

At all events, proper dialogue and any desired constitutional changes should take place in a rational manner, at the National and State Assemblies. These are the proper and legal fora for National debate, not some lop-sided, un-democratic body with pre-determined set of objectives.

Government is keeping up the momentum of dialogue with stakeholders in the Niger Delta to keep the peace. We intend to address genuine grievances of the communities.

Government is grateful to the responsible leadership of those communities and will pursue lasting peace in the Niger Delta.

SECURITY.
On security, Nigerians must be grateful to our gallant Armed Forces for rolling back the frontiers of Boko Haram’s terrorism, defeating them and reducing them to cowardly attacks on soft and vulnerable targets.

Nigeria is grateful to its neighbours and the international community for the collective efforts to defeat this world-wide menace of terrorism.

Not even the most organized and most equipped police and security forces in the world can escape the menace of modern day terrorism, as we have seen in recent years in Europe and other parts of the world.

But we are not letting up. Our Armed Forces in an effort to enhance the operational capability of troops of OPERATION LAFIYA DOLE have established Mobile Strike Teams in the North East. These will ensure the final push to wipe out the remnants of Boko Haram.

In addition, through targeted air strikes most of the leadership and identified logistics bases and routes of the insurgents have been neutralized. The Armed Forces have established a Naval presence in the Lake Chad Basin as part of the coordinated military efforts to curtail the movements or re-emergence of the sect in the area.

Government is working round the clock to ensure release of the remaining Chibok girls, as well as other persons in Boko Haram captivity. Government will continue to support the Armed Forces and other security agencies to fight not only terrorism, but kidnapping, armed robberies, herdsmen/farmers violence and to ensure peace, stability and security in our country.

ECONOMY.
With respect to the economy, the Government has remained pro-active in its diversification policy. The Federal Government’s agricultural Anchor Borrowers Programme, which I launched in November 2015, has been an outstanding success with: N43.92 billion released through the CBN and 13 participating institutions, 200,000 small holder farmers from 29 states of the federation benefitting, 233,000 hectares of farmland cultivating eight commodities, namely Rice, Wheat, Maize, Cotton, soya-beans, Poultry, Cassava and Groundnuts, in addition to fish farming.

These initiatives have been undertaken in close collaboration with the states. I wish to commend the efforts of the Governors of Kebbi, Lagos, Ebonyi and Jigawa States for their support to the rice and fertilizer revolutions.

Equally commendable are contributions of the Governors of Ondo, Edo, Delta, Imo, Cross River, Benue, Ogun, Kaduna and Plateau States for their support for the Presidential initiative for palm oil, rubber, cashew, cassava, potatoes and others crops.

With the abundance of rainfall last year and this year, agriculture has enjoyed Divine intervention.

Since December last year, this Administration has produced over 7 million 50Kg bags of fertilizer. Eleven blending plants with a capacity of 2.1 million metric tons have been reactivated. We have saved $150 million in foreign exchange and N60 billion in subsidy. Fertilizer prices have dropped from N13,000 per 50Kg bag to N5,500.

Furthermore, a new presidential initiative is starting with each state of the Federation creating a minimum of 10,000 jobs for unemployed youths, again with the aid of CBN’s development finance initiatives.

Power remains a huge problem. As of September 12th, production of power reached an all — time high of 7,001 Megawatts. Government is increasing its investment, clearing up the operational and financial log jam bedeviling the industry. We hope to reach 10,000 Megawatts by 2020.

Key priorities include better energy mix through solar and Hydro technologies. I am glad to say that after many years of limbo, Mambilla Power Project has taken off.

Elsewhere in the economy the special window created for manufacturers, investors and exporters, foreign exchange requirements has proved very effective. Since April, about $7 billion has come through this window alone. The main effect of these policies is improved confidence in the economy and better investment sentiments.

The country has recorded 7 consecutive months of lower inflation, Naira rate is beginning to stabilize, appreciating from N525 per $1 in  February this year to N360 today. Broad-based economic growth is leading us out of recession.

Furthermore, in order to stabilize the polity, the Federal Government gave additional support to states in the form of: State Excess Crude Account loans, Budget Support Facility, Stabilization Fund Release to states and local governments as follows: N200 billion in 2015
N441 billion in 2016
N1 trillion in 2017
Altogether totaling N1.642 trillion.

This was done to enable states to pay outstanding salaries, pensions and small business suppliers who had been all but crippled over the years.

In addition, the Government’s current N500 billion Special Intervention Programme is targeting groups through; Home Grown School Feeding Programme, N-Power Job creation to provide loans to small-scale traders and artisans, Conditional Cash Transfer, Family Homes Fund and Social Housing Scheme.

CORRUPTION.
Fellow Nigerians,
We are fully aware that fighting corruption was never going to be a straightforward task. We expected corrupt elements to use any weapon to fight back, mainly judicial obstruction and political diversion. But we are determined to eradicate corruption from our body politic.

In this fight, the Government has: Empowered teams of prosecutors, Assembled detailed databases, Accelerated the recovery of stolen funds.

The Administration’s new institutional reforms include: Enforcing Treasury Single Account, Whistle-Blowers Policy, Integrated Payroll Personnel and Information System.

We have signed multi-lateral cooperation agreements on criminal matters with friendly countries. There are signs of increasing cooperation from the Judiciary. Recently the Chief Justice of the Federation directed Heads of all our Courts of first instance and Appeal to accelerate hearings of corruption cases and dismiss any judicial officers found to have been compromised.

Justice Salami has just been appointed to chair the Judiciary’s anti-graft committee. Government expects a lot from this Committee.

I commend the National Assembly for refocusing on its oversight committees. They should, in addition, ensure swift passage of enabling corruption laws. But fighting corruption is a bottom to top operation. I call on all Nigerians to combat corruption at every turn. By not asking for and refusing to accept a bribe, by reporting unethical practices or by blowing a whistle, together we can beat corruption. The government for its part will work for accountability at all levels - Federal, State and Local Governments. CHANGE will then be real.

As we enter the second half of our term of office, we intend to accelerate progress and intensify our resolve to fix the country’s challenges and problems.
