Bizzare! As Teacher Forces ISI Student To Drink Urine

Ibadan International School, located inside the University of Ibadan, is in the news again. It is not about hijab matter this time around but rather shocking manner in which a teacher was said to have forced one of the students of the to drink his own urine. Recall that the school was involved in hijab crisis recently. That, however, has since been laid to rest with the dismissal of the case by the Oyo State High Court.

According to what we gathered, on Wednesday 26th June, 2019, a day after the court ruled on the hijab matter, Mrs J. Z. Abu, an Agricultural Science teacher, notable for wearing hijab, was alleged to have forced a student, Fayo Opeseitan of JSS 2C to drink his urine.

The boy was said to have asked permission of his teacher, Mrs. Abu during an Agric Science class, to go and urinate three times but the teacher declined. The boy was so pressed to urinate and had no choice than to urinate in a container in class. The Anchor Online gathered that when the teacher found out, she forced the boy in the presence of his classmates to drink his urine, which he did. The teacher then instructed him to go and rinse and discard the container.

Findings also revealed that the incident coincided with the day the teacher’s husband, a lecturer in the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ibadan was announced a Reader. “In these days that spiritual meanings are read to issues, one needs to ask why she did that on the day her husband was promoted”, one student posited.

This unfortunate incident has sent serious fear down the spines of the parents who children in the school, as they now in doubt of safety of their wards. As the school’s management continues struggling to restore the confidence parents had in the school.

In fact, the event is already pitching Muslim parents against their Christian counterparts. Meanings are being read to the incident as some are alleging that the action of the teacher, a Muslim, is a direct assault on a Christian student. The silence of the Muslim Rights Council (MURIC) is also said to be giving Christian parents a wrong impression.

Findings revealed that the Principal, Mrs. Phebean Funke Olowe, was bombarded with phone calls from parents who were informed by their children when they got home from school. It was learnt that the Principal called the teacher to verify the allegation leveled against her. It was a tearful Mrs. Abu that confirmed the allegation to be true.

Not a few parents have wondered why the Governing Board of the school, chaired by the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academics, Prof. E. B. Ekanola has been kind of footdragging in taken any necessary action. “This delay in justice portrays insecurity and an attempt to sweep the matter under the carpet”, an enraged parent said.

Yet another source of worry to those who feel the matter might have actually gone under the carpet is the fact that Mrs. Abu is a member of the ISI Muslim Parent Forum (MPF), one of the bodies involved in the Hijab matter. A release signed by Abdur-Rahman Balogun, the Chairman of ISI MPF, on July 5, had accused the Principal of “high handedness and religious fanatism taken too far” for disallowing students from using Hijab on their school uniforms.

Efforts to reach the Principal for the school’s side of the story proved abortive as she neither answered her phone nor replied text messages sent to her as at the time of filing this report.

I'll Be Surprised if INEC Has Results of Cancelled Polling Units in Ekpenyong Ward- Witness

Amba Anso Amba, the second witness for Chris Ekpenyong, in the battle for Akwa Ibom North West senatorial district, Tuesday, told the National Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal sitting at Akwa Ibom State High Court in Uyo,  that he wil be surprised to hear the polling units he testified to have been cancelled during his evidence, have result sheets as tendered by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in court.

Amba, who said he is a staff of the electoral umpire,  and was involved in the distribution of election materials for the February 23 presidential and national assembly elections in Ekpenyong's ward, Essien Udim Local Government Area of the state, had told the tribunal that there was no proper election in 15 polling units of the ward because election materials and INEC officials, including himself, were kidnapped while distributing the materials and made to thumb the ballot papers at gun point.

He had also told the court that the columns for accreditation were ticked because accreditation did not take place.
He was led in evidence by counsel to the first respondent in the petition (Ekpenyong), Uche Njoku.

But when counsel to the petitioners, Sunday Ameh, showed him the result sheets as provided to the petitioners by INEC, the witness said he would be surprised if INEC provided the true certified copies of the result from the polling units he said were cancelled because of irregularities.

"I will be surprised that results of the polling units I said ballot papers were thumb printed, were collated and announced at both ward and local government level."

When reminded that from INEC's document, tendered in court as exhibit, only one polling unit was cancelled, he  said "I will be surprised that only one unit was cancelled."

Amba earlier told the tribunal that based on his report of abduction, thumb printing of ballot and forced  declaration of the result, 15 polling units were cancelled.

When asked if the smart card readers after capturing a voters for accreditation, do not indicate the number of voters accredited, he said he did not know because he does not worth in ICT department.

When shown a copy of his report, that the receiver did not write date of receiving it, he said under re-examination by  Njoku, that it was an internal memo, which could be dated or otherwise when received.
He said he did not report the kidnap to the police because he was instructed by his superiors that every report should go to the office.

Oyo Coalition: Makinde's Group Reacts To Lanlehin's Withdrawal News

Oyo coalition: Setting the records straight.

We received with shock, claims credited to the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator Femi Lanlehin, that he has withdrawn his support for the coalition birthed by a number of political parties ahead of the March 9, 2019 election in Oyo State.

It is more shocking to read Senator Lanlehin's allegation that his decision was hinged on Governor Seyi Makinde's infidelity to the coalition agreement.
That allegation, to say the least, is a clear affront on the sincerity of Governor Makinde and his magnanimous disposition in handling all the discussions about the coalition.

Let us also state without equivocation that the claim by the Senator is untrue, unjustifiable and inconsistent with the reality of it all.

A statement signed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Strategy and Political Matters, Honourable Babatunde Oduyoye, on Tuesday, maintained that the governor could not be accused of non-compliance by any party, because he had lived up to his promise to all parties to the coalition and in some cases “even bending backwards to accommodate all interests.”
He said that the Governor has lived up to his promise not only to Senator Lanlehin but also to all members of the coalition, saying that the committee reached an agreement, which was signed by all the parties and tabled before the Governor.

He said that the agreement contained a template for the sharing of positions in government as well as membership of boards and parastatals, noting that procedures have been set in motion for the actualization of the template.

According to Oduyoye, the apex committee of the coalition parties had met over three times, with agreements reached and tabled at a meeting with the Governor, adding that the Governor even improved on the agreement to further accommodate interests in the ADC and the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).

The statement further read: “There was no dissenting voice from all the representatives of the parties at the meeting with Governor Makinde. Everyone commended how he handled the matter. Senator Lanlehin only had issues with the other leaders of the ADC on Monday when they were discussing how to share the positions allotted to the ADC.
"He should not in any way attempt to drag the name of Governor Makinde to the frustrations he is encountering in his party.

“If Senator Lanlehin withdraws from the coalition, he must have done so as an individual, because we are aware that the ADC as a party remains an integral part of the coalition as leaders of the party have repeatedly pledged their fidelity to the coalition.

"We believe that the coalition was not put together merely to further any personal aspiration other than the collective interests of the people of Oyo State."

BREAKING: Lanlehin Withdraws From Coalition Over ‘Non-compliance’ By Makinde

Senator Olufemi Lanlehin (Solan), Oyo State Leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) hereby announces forthwith, his personal withdrawal from the coalition he has with Engr. Seyi Makinde, the Oyo State governor.

Recall that Senator Lanlehin, former Oyo State gubernatorial candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) joined forces with other opposition parties’ governorship candidates to back Makinde, and the gubernatorial victory was thereupon resounding.

Lanlehin, who hinged his decision to quit the coalition on what he termed Governor Makinde’s non compliance with the spirit and letters of the terms of the  gubernatorial pre-election agreement reached, however maintains that his party, the ADC is at liberty to remain in the coalition, and believes it should, in fact, remain.

Lanlehin, going forward, states that while he remains a committed member of the ADC, he would adopt a “siddon look” posture in the governance of Oyo State and allied matters.

Akwa Ibom Tribunal Updates, As Witness Claims To Be Blind

The Senatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District, Engr Chris Ekpenyong on Monday opened his defence at the National Assembly Elections Petition Tribunal sitting in Uyo by calling a witness who accepted he was a fake agent during the elections.
Mr Kufre Augustine from Abia Okpo Ikot Nkap in Obot Akara Local Government Area, claimed to have been the Local Government Collation Agent for Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) but under cross examination by S. I. Ameh, SAN Counsel to Senator Godswill Akpabio, the Witness agreed that his party did not have a candidate in the election.
The Witness agreed that the acronyms of all the Political parties were usually stated on the result sheets but when Mr Ameh showed him the Obot Akara Local Government result which he claimed he was an Agent, his party was not listed.
Counsel to Senator Akpabio asked the Witness “were you agent to ZLP that had no candidate or were you Agent to the candidate of another political party?” he asked. The Witness answered that he was the Agent to ZLP which had no candidate in the election.
Also led in evidence by Mr Ameh, Witness accepted to have lied on oath when he agreed that he is a teaching staff of Akwa Ibom State College of Technology contrary to his deposition on oath that he is a businessman.
Earlier there was mild drama in the Tribunal when another Witness called by Engr Ekpenyong, Mr Sylvester Inyang of Ikot Ukana in Obot Akara Local Government Area suddenly claimed he had developed eye problems and could not read the documents presented to him which were admitted as exhibits in the Tribunal.
The document which is an INEC certified true copy of the election result in Obot Akara Local Government Area showed that the total number of votes cast exceeded the number of accredited voters.
But when asked to read the figures from the exhibit document, the Witness claimed he could not see from the same document he had earlier answered questions from the PDP Lawyer. “My Lord I have eye problems, I cannot see again,” he said amidst laughter in the Tribunal.
It was the contention of Mr Ameh that since the INEC document tendered by the PDP showed that the number of votes in the Local Government Area of the PDP candidate, exceeded the number of accredited voters, the result ought to have been cancelled but the Witness claimed he could neither see the figures not what was written on the document.
The matter was adjourned to Tuesday for the Respondent to present more witnesses.
