How Akwa Ibom Government, INEC rigged Akpabio Out of NASS Election-Adams Oshiomhole

As claims and counter-claim continue to trail last weekend’s presidential and NASS polls, National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Adams Oshiomhole has stated that INEC connived with the Akwa Ibom state government to rig Senator Godswill Akpabio out.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday in Abuja, he said the electoral umpire deliberately employed government officials as election agents with instructions to deliver victory to PDP candidates.
Oshiomhole said elections in Akwa Ibom state were not close to free and fair, stating that the APC has evidence of altered figures of senatorial election results that affected the former Minority leader of the Nigerian Senate.
His words, “Akpabio was rigged in the last week’s elections. How would one explain altered figures against Akpabio which we have in our custody?
“The Independent National Electoral Commission in Akwa Ibom employed Akwa Ibom state officials as electoral officers who manipulated figures against opponents.
“They keep manipulating and adjusting figures until they are satisfied that Akpabio was defeated before submitting results to INEC,” he claimed.
Oshiomhole further revealed that APC has already petitioned INEC, expressing optimism that with time, justice would prevail in the matter.

Akwa Ibom: Akpabio Must Not Be Singled Out Over Election Revalidation

PRESS RELEASE

It has come to our notice that the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Mike Igini, has said that the total votes cast for Senator Godswill Akpabio in his home local government area,  Essien Udim, should be subjected to a revalidation by using the Card Reader.

This is a welcome development. But we would insist that the  exercise be replicated in all the three senatorial districts in the State and should apply to all candidates irrespective of their party affiliation.

Senator Godswill Akpabio should therefore not be isolated for this investigation by INEC if it wants to maintain its impartial status.

It is also a known principle that all laws must have universal application, as whoever goes to equity must go with clean hands.

Elections: AMPON President, Wole Arisekola Warns Journalists Against Circulating Fake Results Online

President, Association of Online Media Practitioners of Nigeria (AMPON) Mr. Wole Arisekola has warned his colleagues in the online news media service to shown any act of disseminating false election results on social media.
According to the Ibadan born philanthropic and publisher of StreetJournal Magazine, “I am warning my brothers and sisters in the online news media to do away with circulating fake election results without INEC approval.
The havoc caused by this act is hefty that it can be a threat to national security. The election periods in Nigeria are perilous moments and we using our journalistic power to cause unrest in the country due to fake reports is something we should shy away from.  If we are not mindful of this act that is not adding any value to our professionalism and of course the integrity of our nation, we may be turning the election process into chaos.
What most of us in the online media post are viewed globally and when it’s on the wrong side, then we have dented the image of the country in the global community," he said

2019 Elections: Ignore Rumours of Violence and Unrest-Buhari Tells Nigerians

Full text of the National Broadcast by President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday 22nd February, 2019.

Dear Nigerians,

Finally, we have reached the eve of the rescheduled first round of this year’s general elections.

2. Tomorrow, the polls open. Tomorrow, we affirm that Nigeria stands as a democracy and that no worldly hand can deter us from this wise and fitting path we have chosen for ourselves.

3. While democracy is the most beneficial way to select a nation’s leaders, it is far from the easiest thing to achieve and maintain.

4. It requires a combination of patience, tolerance, compassion, diligence, wisdom and hope. These traits exist in us the Nigerian people. Because of who we are, democracy has the chance to flourish in this land.

5. Thus, I commend all of you for your patience and peaceful conduct so far during this electoral season and especially during this intervening week following the postponement of the February 16 elections.

6. Many were worried and thought the worst might happen. You proved them wrong by showing that you are a great people with an abiding love for peace, democracy and the unity of our country.

7. According to the daily INEC public briefings given this week, the Electoral Commission says it is ready and fully prepared to conduct the election in a free, fair and transparent manner.

8. I believe INEC realises the profound and weighty duty that rests upon it.

9. We must cast aside doubt and have faith that INEC will rise to the occasion. We must believe and encourage INEC to fulfill and honour this responsibility it owes to our country.

10. As your President, I hereby ask all Nigerians with voting cards to participate in defining the future of our nation by exercising your democratic rights tomorrow. I urge you to go out and vote.

11. I say this because elections are the cornerstone of representative governance. And voting constitutes the highest and best expression of the sovereign will of the people to choose the government that best represents them.

12.  It is only upon the freely expressed will of the people that government truly dedicated to the welfare, rights and interests of the people can be founded.

13.  Do not allow anyone to discourage you from the exercise of your rights as citizens and voters tomorrow.

14. To vote means that you believe in Nigeria and the excellent things the future holds for this nation and its people.

15.  No matter our political leanings, we all believe in Nigeria, in the noble principles for which it stands and in the values we strive for our beloved nation to uphold.

16.  All who are able, must vote so that we may better perfect this democracy and continue to build the greater nation we seek.

17. Do not be afraid of rumours of violence and unrest. Our security agencies have worked diligently to ensure that adequate security measures are in place.

18. You will be able to vote in an atmosphere of openness and peace, devoid of fear from threat or intimidation.

19. International and domestic monitors and observers are assured of their safety and freedom of movement needed to perform their important functions.

20. As we thank domestic monitors and observers for their contributions to our democracy, we also thank the international groups for the friendship and concern they have demonstrated to our nation.

21. We appreciate their efforts in encouraging us to further entrench and strengthen our democracy.

22.  Tomorrow is an encounter with history in which you, the people, shall affirm your collective belief in our national greatness and in our future.

23.  I ask that you embrace and hold on to the importance of the moment soon to be upon us.

24.  Honour your civic duty as voters by going to the polls tomorrow to vote for the government of your choice, for the government that will lead Nigeria toward its finest destiny.

25. As citizens there is no greater duty than this and no greater honour. Tomorrow, I know you will once again make Nigeria proud of its people.

May God bless our democracy and forever bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

We Have No Pact With APC- Osun SDP Chairman, Ademola Ishola

The Pioneer Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP)in Osun state, Chief Ademola Ishola this afternoon reinstated the call of the SDP stakeholders to vote for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential
candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

Ishola in a statement in Osogbo on Thursday, February 21, 2019 disclosed,
that, "the foundation members of the party from the 30 local governments have resolved to severe all ties with Otunba Iyiola Omisore and his coalition agenda with the APC."

According to him, "Majority of the SDP members, particularly the old supporters have no pact with the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state and were not involved in any coalition agreement with the ruling
party."

He stated that the party was faced with a situation where some people who were never part of the vision of SDP and those who lacked ideals of what the party stood for, hijacked the party and wanted to destroy it like they did to their former party.

“For instance, the former deputy-governor of the State, Iyiola Omisore and his supporters came to our party in April last year and you will recollect how they caused several trouble for us. He spent less than six months and now he is out again. The crisis Omisore caused is still very much with us".

“We have decided to save our party in the state. We will support our members who are contesting in the forthcoming election, but we have directed all authentic members of SDP to vote for Atiku and for PDP candidates  where we have no candidate.

“We resolved to do that because we are of the opinion that we cannot collaborate with those responsible for the  killings, hunger, unemployment, nepotism and
suffering in our land.

"It is our resolve to join hands with the PDP to bring an end to all the terrible situation that the ruling party forced on the good  people of Osun state and Nigeria"

"The pains and sufferings of our people must be stopped and we shall deploy all legitimate resources to make this dream a reality".

"Our Presidential candidates have endorsed Atiku Abubakar,so every member of the party be it a Gana or Duke' supporter,we are bound to tow their path by voting the PDP"

Ishola called for a peaceful polls, and encourage electorates to come out enmass without fear of intimidation.

"The presidential order and the show of force by the security agencies is just to scare voters."

"This election is about the future of our great nation", Atiku says as he appeals to Nigerians

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has appealed to Nigerians to come out and vote in Saturday's rescheduled election. He pointed out that the election is about the future of Nigeria.

Making the appeal in a live broadcast on his social media pages, Abubakar said “my message to you is simple, please come out and vote as this election is about your future and the future of our great nation”.
He noted that everyone is equal and no one is more important than the other, thereby encouraging everyone to vote.
“As you know this Saturday we have the Presidential and National Assembly elections.

The reason we have elections is to allow us to have our voices heard on how we have been governed for the last four and who will govern us for the next four years.
“On March 28, 2015, we the people of Nigeria went to the polling unit only with our PVCs, yet we were able to remove an incumbent President from office, that made me be a very proud Nigerian and a very Democrat”.

He added that this Saturday Nigerians will have another opportunity to vote the President of their choice, and that can only be done through the PVC’s.
“I will be voting with mine on Saturday and I call on you all to please join me irrespective of who you will be voting for.
“God bless you and God, bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria”, he said.

Why Nigerians Should Re-elect Buhari As President-Akpabio

The National Coordinator, Presidential Support Committee, Senator Godswill Akpabio has insisted that considering the achievements of the President Muhammadu Buhari's administration in office Nigeria has no other better alternative than to give him another term.

Senator Godswill Akpabio, who spoke with Journalists  in Abuja, urged the South South people to reconsider their stand in planning to vote for the party that wants to sell the corporation and its assets.

Atiku Abubakar, the PDP Presidential Candidate has vowed if voted into power to sell NNPC to break what he called ‘mafia’ in the corporation. But Senator Akpabio said it will not be in the interest of the Niger Delta people for NNPC to be sold.

“Yes I believe Nigerians can compare the difference between apple and orange. The reality is that this president has done very well considering the fact that he was able to take Nigeria out of recession.

“He met ongoing projects  on ground them such as the airports and the railways. He completed and put them to use. Nigerians are clamoring for change, better health care, better educational facilities and all those things cannot happen when you spend almost 80% of resources on recurring expenses like pension, salaries, arrears etc.

“So we must commend the President and of course  if you take a look of what is happening in the Lagos-Ibadan railway you will be very impressed.  Take a look at the Abuja-Kano railway, some people now travel with rail to the north.

“The power sector has improved from 2,500MW to 7000MW. So many things are visible and the enabling environment is there in terms of law and order. The fight against corruption has really been intensified and the good thing is that it has now become a deterrent to any public official that yes,  if you go out of your way to move your pocket forward instead of your country or state, you will be held accountable.

“We in the Niger  Delta are very apprehensive. I don’t think that there is any person in the South South  who will go and vote for PDP. Even some of them are trying to purchase votes because when you look at the major policy document of the PDP today they are talking about selling  the NNPC.

“What does the NNPC have? Is it the building? What NNPC controls is the oil of the Niger Delta, oil wells, oil fields and all those thing come together with the land. I don’t see anybody from the South South  or any Niger Deltan who will agree that the same way we sold out Nigeria airways and we became a laughing stock in the comity of states in Africa is the same way NNPC should be sold.

“When you look at Kenya Airways, Ethopia  Airline, Ghana Airline, South African Airways and Nigeria has no single plane now called its own. We sold out our Aluminium Smelter Company in Ikot Abasi that provided thousands of jobs and today that place is totally bare with over 690MW of electricity.

“We sold out Oku Iboku Paper Mill in Akwa Ibom and our people are there jobless and that massive structure is a waste. All those things combined are things that frighten us when somebody talks about the sale of NNPC. The sale of NNPC on its own simply means that the Niger Deltans are going to be divested of not just their properties, not just the water that they fish in, but the fact that they will become tenants in their lands for the next 50 to 100 years. And people will come from outside, maybe friends of the government, and possess their land.

"The election also is between integrity and others. The President has shown that he can give what belongs to Niger Delta to Niger Delta. He is even refunding monies that were used during my tenure to repair federal roads and what we use to call Paris Club refund.

“We tried everything under the PDP. We never had that money and I was a Governor and the FG was owing  over 145 Billion on federal roads and the building of prisons and other things I had to intervene. I dualized federal roads, built airport and today federal government is refunding those monies to the state.

“If you see a government that has shown sincerity it simply means that we are now talking about a question of integrity and a question of postulation. We are postulating that if you bring in a government that will sell your father’s land, that will sell your oil wells and sell the waters that you use in fishing, then I can conclude that there is no alternative to President Buhari.”

PDP Accuses Ruling Party Of Using Fake Policemen In Osun

The State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State, Hon. Olasoji Adagunodo has alerted the party members in the State to be vigilant, careful and watchful for fake APC members in police uniforms who are arresting PDP members on frivolous charges which the state police command has no knowledge of.

A particular case in question is the case of Alhaja Mulikat Yusuff who was kidnapped at Oke-Ola area of Ilesa in Ilesa West yesterday by uniformed policemen but who  were later discovered to be members of the All Progressives Congress wearing fake police uniforms and also driving about in Hilux Pickup Vans and Toyota buses of various brands.

The Nigerian Police has denied sending any of its men to go on mass arrest of any politician in Osun State in recent times, specifically mentioning the case of Alhaja Mulikat Yusuff as a very strange one.

Also, one Prince Shola Adewumi, the council chairman and one Obeesun were the ones who led thugs in Police uniforms to the house of a PDP chieftain in Ijebu-Jesa,  Alhaji Tijani Aburumaku but met his absence, his son, a serving member of the National Youth Service Corps who was met in the house was manhandled and beaten to a pulp.

Interestingly, when contacted, the Area Commander of the Nigerian Police in Ijebu-Jesa also denied ever issuing any order or instruction to that effect.

This is another clear case of fake policemen in uniform terrorising innocent citizens with sole aim of scaring them away from participating in the forthcoming general elections which will not augur well for our nascent democracy.

In the light of the above and based on the denial by the Osun State command of the Nigerian Police of such unauthorized actions, the Osun State chairman of PDP, Hon Soji Adagunodo has issued a directive to all PDP members in Osun State to mobilize the public and party members and make sure that such policemen who may come for arrest of our members are dragged to the nearest police station/command or delayed till policemen of any nearest police station are called in to ascertain their identities and to avoid being kidnapped by the APC members in fake policemen uniform.

Oyo ADP Guber Candidate, Alao-Akala Denies Alliance Rumour

The gubernatorial candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) in Oyo State, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala has denied the rumour making the rounds that he is working for another governorship candidate from the opposition party.

This and many other issues were adddreadd in a press release made unvailable to us by his campaign organization.

PRESS RELEASE

The Akala Campaign Organization wishes to restate that the gubernatorial candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), Otunba Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala is not working for any other governorship candidate in Oyo state.

The clarification is necessary in order to dispel the series of rumors and  aimed at misinforming and confusing our teaming supporters world over.

At a time, the rumor in town was that he was not serious about his governorship ambition and that he was going to play the role of a spoiler or work for another governorship candidate.

The most recent is that he is working for the PDP governorship candidate, Engineer Seyi Makinde.

The Akala Campaign Organization hereby debunks all these insinuations which is the handiwork of the Propaganda machinery of the Government in Power in Oyo state which is jittery and overwhelmed by the soaring popularity of Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala and to state clearly that the former Governor is committed to taking the people of Oyo State out of the political mess they have been plunged into by the insensitive A. P. C government of Sen. Ajimobi since he left office eight years ago.

Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala has toured the nooks and crannies of Oyo State, taking the message of hope to the citizenry which was received with enthusiasm by the people.

His Excellency, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala is not into any discussion, alliance or talks with the PDP governorship candidate Engr. Seyi Makinde or any other for that matter.

That is like the elephant hiding behind a rat when in the real sense, it is the rat that needs the cover of the elephant.

It is not in doubt that Akala is a political giant who cannot and would never hide under any candidate or politician in the state.

Rather, it is expected that, considering Akala’s experience and achievements, other young candidates should come together to support and rally Alao Akala so as to restore the State’s pacesetter position in the Committee of States.

What is the sensibility behind Alao-Akala dissipating his energy and financial resources over the governorship election if it is for any other motive other than to govern Oyo State again?

If it is prominence, Otunba Alao-Akalahe has it.

If it is wealth, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala is comfortable for the rest of his life so rather, his pursuit is for the emancipation of Oyo State people.

The Akala Campaign Organization thereby reiterates that His Excellency, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala is not advancing the cause of the PDP candidate, Engineer Makinde or any other political party or candidate and consequently advises cheap rumor peddlers who want to profit from Alao-Akala’s large image to desist from cheap gossips and get more involved in issues that can move Oyo State forward.

In the final analysis, Alao-Akala is promising the Oyo state people a good time again as it was during his first coming.

The endorsements already coming from other political parties in the state for His Excellency, Otunba Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala is an assurance that the ballot will surely be in his favour; and that Agodi Government House is ready for reoccupation by Alao-Akala again.

Signed:

“More Nigerians Were Killed in The Last Four Years Than Ever Before”- Atiku

Speaking at the National Executive Council meeting of the People’s Democratic Party in Abuja on Tuesday, the party’s presidential flag bearer, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar averred that more Nigerians were killed in the last four years than ever before. He also stated that about 14 million more Nigerians became jobless as a result of what he called the “incompetence” of the All Progressives Congress.
Speaking on the postponement of the election, Atiku said “I am sure we can all relate to the losses and burden on our citizens who travelled to various destinations for the exercise.
This is in addition to the burden on election personnel willing to sacrifice in furtherance of our democracy”.
Noting that his party’s opponent “will stop at nothing to retain power”, Atiku said “our goal is not to gain power for our own sake, but for the people of our country who have been so hard hit by four years of APC cluelessness and incompetence.
Four years which have seen 14 million more of our people without jobs, more of our people killed than ever before and more of our people living in extreme poverty than any other nation on this planet.
Let us not forget that in the last three years of the last PDP administration, Nigeria had become the largest economy in Africa and in each of those years, we had the fastest growth rate in our continent.
And so true to our values and commitment to chart a new path for our beloved country, our campaigns have been issues based, offering Nigerians hope for a better tomorrow; while demanding free, fair, transparent and credible elections from the government”.
While explaining why he feels Nigeria’s 20-year-old democracy might be under threat, Atiku Abubakar called on President Buhari and security agencies to uphold Nigeria’s constitution with an understanding that voting is a civil right and civic responsibility.
“The Nigerian military is constitutionally responsible for protecting our national integrity and its borders and has no role to play in the conduct of elections.
Additionally, I call on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), once again to remain impartial arbiters while ensuring that they conduct credible elections, this time around.
INEC must ensure that all logistical challenges are addressed between now and Saturday, the 23rd, and that all materials retrieved from the field are inspected by participating political parties before the commencement of the elections”, Atiku stated.
He also took time to point out that the President’s utterances and those from his party bring back memories of the days of military dictatorship. He said “General Buhari has repeatedly violated the constitution and failed to uphold the rule of law, recent instances include the unconstitutional suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, the day before he was to appoint the judges for the electoral tribunals that will decide any appeals of whether any of our elections were subject to manipulation.Thereby crossing the immutable line that divides the Executive from the Judiciary.”
In reaction to the President’s threat that those who disrupt the voting system would do so at the risk of their lives, Atiku stated that “It is quite shocking for any head of state to utter such words in a democracy. A pre-condition for ‘free, fair and credible’ elections is that the people are able to cast their vote without fear of violence.
Elected into office by the votes of the people in what is considered Nigeria’s most free, fair and credible election, you owe it to our people to let them give their verdict in the same way you were elected”.

Defection: Ex-Oyo Gov, Akala's Son, Olamiju Sacked As Ogbomoso North LG Chairman

Olamiju Alao-Akala, son of the former Governor of Oyo State Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala, has been advised to honourably vacate his seat as the Chairman, Ogbomoso North Local Government by the Legislative Council of the local government.

This was contained in a letter addressed to Olamiju, dated 18th February, 2019 and signed by the Head of Local Government Administration of Ogbomoso North Local Government, Mr. M.F Afolabi. Where it was stated that the resolution to releave Olamiju Akala of his position was arrived at plenary of the local government's Legislative Council on Friday 15th February, 2019.

Copy of the letter was made available to our reporter.
Recall Olamiju Akala, who is currently serving as Chairman of Ogbomoso North Local Government under the ruling party in the state the All Progressives Congress (APC), was sighted on his father's campaign train last week in Ogbomoso.

Akala is the gubernatorial candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP).

Osun PDP Accuse APC Of Faking Attacks To Draw Security, Public Sympathy

The Peoples Democratic Party, Osun State chapter has come heavily on the All Progressives Congress in Osun State and their lies and fabrications in order to deceive the Police authorities in the state.

They are again trying to implicate our Party  members, the PDP and Police authority   by making them enmeshed in frivolous arrest of members of the opposition parties based on unconfirmed allegations of attacks and other untoward activities.

The State Chairman of the party in Osun State, Hon. Olasoji Adagunodo made a reference to a petition written against PDP members in Ila local government area of the state by APC who brought about 12 people to Asubiaro hospital claiming that PDP members attacked and injured them.

They wore bandages on their legs, arms, heads and other parts of their bodies but a closer observation revealed that all their claims of attacks, injuries etc, are mere frame up and there were no injuries on the entire 12 people who  carried bandages all over their bodies.

In order to remain impartial,  the police commissioner in Osun State should, as a matter of duty, investigate the hospital, the policemen who investigated the story and come out with clean a bill to convince Nigerians and Osun people as an unbiased umpire in the present situation and possibly apply the appropriate law to sanction them as a deterrent to others like them who may want to create and confusion in our dear state.

All Political Parties In Akwa Ibom Accuse INEC Of Partisanship

The text of a press conference held in Uyo by the Forum of All Political Parties in Akwa Ibom State, following the postponement of the 16 February 2019 elections
Gentlemen of the Press,
As you may all be aware, the general elections that were to kick off on Saturday, 16 February 2019 have been moved forward by one week. The rescheduling came as a surprise and with a huge cost to us; we were ready as a party for the elections. INEC has said the elections were postponed to get the logistics right in order to deliver a free, fair and transparent elections. In light of the explanation by INEC, we as Political Parties have accepted the cost incurred as a necessary sacrifice for the good of our democracy.
Let us take the advantage of this pause on the road to thank God whose grace and protection have seen us thus far in the Akwa Ibom Project.

We want to also thank the good people of Akwa Ibom in general and members and supporters of our parties in particular who have remained loyal to the cause in the past months in spite of many challenges as we keep up the good fight to recover and redeem our dear state. We urge them to remain mobilized and ready until the job is done.
We want to take note of the work of members of the security services and urge them to exercise professionalism in the discharge of their duties in the state.
Permit us to place on record the support of leaders of our various Parties. Their support in the form of good counsel and contributions in material terms have helped the us to cope with many hurdles that have confronted the parties in the cause of this project. However, many challenges remain and must be addressed for us to achieve our set objectives.

INEC AND THE IMPERATIVE OF FAIR UMPIRE
We have had cause in the immediate past to call attention to the failure of the INEC leadership in the state to inspire the confidence of all parties in the political process by reason of the actions of the Commission and the utterances of its leaders.
INEC has betrayed unbridled partisanship through the selection of its ad hoc staff, some of whom are drawn from the employees of the Commission, contrary to extant practices and institutional requirements.
Through connivance with the state government, all the ad hoc staff of the Commission is made up of loyal members and supporters of the PDP.
In addition, the Commission has acted as though it were part of the Government House in Uyo. In spite of our representations to the head office of the Commission in Abuja, nothing has been done to allay our concern that the INEC office in Akwa Ibom State is not a fair umpire and cannot deliver a free, fair and transparent election because it is partisan and in bed with the ruling PDP government in the state. This anomaly must be addressed.

SECURITY THREAT
Just as we warned of the partisanship of the election umpire, we had raised the alarm that the PDP and the state government stockpiled arms and recruited thugs and terrorists to be used to rig the elections. What happened on the eve of the now rescheduled 16 February 2019 elections proved beyond reasonable doubt that the alarm we raised was not unfounded. On the eve of the first scheduled sets of elections, the Police arrested more than 500 thugs in various parts of the state. Confessions by the captured criminals showed clearly that they were brought into the state from other parts of the country by PDP politicians. The thugs were arrested with sophisticated arms and ammunitions.
At this point, we want to register our appreciation to the security forces who averted a bloodbath through their quick and precision strike to neutralize the threat posed by the infiltration of the dangerous criminals into the state by leaders of the PDP.
However, our concern over security as we approach the rescheduled election is more structural. Field reports from our men on the eve of the rescheduled elections show that there were no visible deployments of security forces in the state. This smacks of sabotage. What was worse, the state Commissioner of Police actually disarmed the tactical command of the Force and redeployed them elsewhere. That kind of inadequate attention to security at a critical period like election season is an open invitation to trouble from elements such as thugs and anti-social elements who flooded the state on the eve of the elections.

1000 VOTE DEFENDERS
We want to call attention of the security agencies and members of the public in general to the open boast by the State Governor, a boast well reported in the mainstream media, that he had made provisions for ‘1000 vote defenders’ for each polling unit during the elections. Since the state has 2980 polling units, the governor would have to use ‘2,980,000 vote defenders.’ I want to ask the security agencies and the public at large to see the connection between that boast by the governor and the flooding of the state on the eve of the rescheduled elections with thugs and terrorists imported from other states in the nation. It is common knowledge that most of the polling units in the state cannot boast more than 500 people. So where was the governor going to get his ‘1000 vote defenders’ from? The answer to that query lies in the importation of thousands of thugs and terrorists into the state by the PDP government. The Udom Emmanuel administration is thus a direct threat to the sanctity of the forthcoming elections and therefore to our democracy. Given the immunity enjoyed by the governor until he leaves office, we call for immediate arrest and prosecution of all those who work with him to endanger the state with industrial scale importation of nearly three million thugs and terrorists deceitfully spoken of as ‘vote defenders.’
PROSECUTION
We demand a thorough investigation of those thugs with the purpose of determining who brought them into the state. We also demand that the criminals and their sponsors should be promptly prosecuted in accordance with the extant laws of the land.
NEED TO BEEF UP SECURITY
Given the unprecedented security threat in the immediate build-up to and during the first scheduled elections, the need to enhance security to avert a bloodbath in the state and guarantee free and fair elections cannot be overstated. We are therefore calling on the National Security Adviser, the Inspector General of Police and the Director General of the DSS to take a peculiar look at Akwa Ibom State, and accordingly beef up security in the state with more police personnel, more DSS operatives and more armed forces personnel. The level of threat in Akwa Ibom State, given the number of thugs arrested on the eve of the first scheduled elections, shows that we cannot make too much provision for security in the state.
EFCC AND CASH SEIZURE
We received report that during the week leading to the first scheduled elections, the EFCC intercepted a cash haul of N1.3 billion moved from the state government accounts at Heritage Bank, intended to be used to bribe INEC officials and for vote buying in some parts of the state. We call on the EFCC to clear the air on this report.
VOTE BUYING BY STATE GOVERNMENT
As reported under the EFCC cash seizure above, the State Government is using state funds to indulge heavily in the criminal practice of vote buying at N10,000 per voter in all the 2,980 polling units in the state.
In addition to the general vote buying, the State Government is busy mopping up PVCs in opposition strongholds through mindless financial inducement of voters to part with their voter’s cards at the rate of N50,000 per card.
We are hereby calling on all Akwa Ibom people not to sell their PVCs. The PVCs represent your power to change a government that has not helped you in any way and replace it with a government that will support your business, invest in your child’s education with bursary award and develop your communities.
We also want to call on the security forces to go after the criminals who are disenfranchising innocent voters by taking away their PVCs through a trick of a financial inducement.

Police Arrest 400 Suspected Political Thugs In Akwa Ibom

The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has gone all out to curtail the menace of political thugs in Akwa Ibom State as officers of the Akwa Ibom state command arrested no fewer than 400 suspected thugs, alleged to be working for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

The suspects were arrested in their hideout in Ewet Housing Estate, Friday morning, in Uyo, the state capital. Recovered from the thugs were guns and ammunition.

Some of the millitants were arrested in a bus with inscription ‘Divine Mandate’ belonging to Akwa Ibom State goverment
Speaking with reporters in Uyo, Police Inspector, Jeremiah Dogo, said the “arrest was made possible by the deployment of extra policemen to the state by the IGP.”

Inspector Dogo said confessional statements obtained from the thugs indicated that they were brought in from Bayelsa and Rivers states by PDP chieftains to help rig the general elections. The suspects are mostly indigenes of the two states.
It was gathered that the hideout where the thugs were nabbed is believed to be owned by a PDP chieftain in the state.

The state police command said intelligence reports revealed various hideouts of the thugs and cultists that have come into the state in the last few days, obviously for the election.
The State Commissioner of Police, Bashir Makama, who confirmed the arrests, said the police was still investigating the matter.

Makama said the police acted on intelligence report, hence carried out raids on suspected black spots in Uyo and its environs to forestall any breakdown of law and order during election.

The Commissioner of Police, who was silent on the number of suspects arrested in the sting operation, said he was not aware of any vehicle caught with money in it.

“We will make life unbearable for them,” a source in the state police command said.
Reacting to the arrest, the APC in the state said it was a welcome development.

In a statement, APC said the arrest has given vent to the alleged statement by the Director-General of the state governor’s campaign council, Air Commodore Idongesit Nkanga (rtd), that Governor Udom Emmanuel should prepare for war if he wanted to win the upcoming election.

The party pointed to an earlier statements of the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Onofiok Luke and Senator Bassey Albert, a few months ago that they would do everything possible to ensure the victory of the PDP in the general elections.
However, the Publicity Secretary of the PDP in the state, Comrade Iniobong Ememobong, said he was not aware of the arrest of any group of persons said to be working for the party.

“Stay Calm in The Face of Provocation”, Atiku Urges Supporters

Following the last minute  postponement of the general elections, the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has called on his supporters to stay calm even in the face of provocation.
Atiku Abubakar, in a statement issued from Yola described the postponement as “the voice of Jacob and the hand of Esau”.
Below is the full text of the statement:
Dear citizens of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,
As you know, the Independent National Electoral Commission has announced a postponement of the elections until 23 February and 9 March respectively.
The Buhari administration has had more than enough time and money to prepare for these elections and the Nigerian people were poised and ready to perform their civic responsibility by voting in the elections earlier scheduled for Saturday, 16 February, 2019.
This postponement is obviously a case of the hand of Esau but the voice of Jacob. By instigating this postponement, the Buhari administration hopes to disenfranchise the Nigerian electorate in order to ensure that turn out is low on the rescheduled date. Nigerians must frustrate their plans by coming out in even greater numbers on Saturday, 23 February and Saturday, 9 March respectively.
Knowing that the Nigerian people are determined to reject them, they are desperate and will do anything in their power to avoid their rejection by the Nigerian people.
Their plan is to provoke the public, hoping for a negative reaction, and then use that as an excuse for further anti-democratic acts.
As such, I call on all Nigerians to be patient. We have tolerated the maladministration of this government for four years. We can extend our tolerance a few more days and give them our verdict via our votes.
Maintain the peace and be law abiding. Do not react to this provocation with anger, violence or any action that might be exploited by those who do not want this election to hold. Remain calm. We will overcome this. You can postpone an election, but you cannot postpone destiny.
Please come out to vote on Saturday, 23 February and Saturday, 9 March respectively. Frustrate those who do not want this election to hold by coming out in very large numbers. That is the best antidote to their plans.
May God bless you and may God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Fake Police On Rampage, Engage In Sporadic Shootings in Ofatedo and Ifewara To Scare People From Voting-Osun PDP Alleges

The Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State has described as cowardice the recent engagements in sporadic shootings by organized thugs of the All Progressives Congres in Osun State otherwise known as "FAKE POLICE"

It has also been confirmed that some boys of a former senator from Osun East were the ones leading the team of fake police around Ifewara in Atakunmosa East area of the State and their main objective was to scare people to leave the community ahead of the election day because they are already jittery of the imminent defeat that is currently staring them in the face.

Immediately the news filtered to the notice of the Party , Hon. Olasoji Adagunodo the State Chairman of PDP in Osun said the police authorities in the state have been informed and they are already on their trail because no police officer has the instructions to go about shooting and create panic where there is no cause for alarm.

He,  however, advised that "it is the responsibility of the citizens to report suspicious and strange associations to the police and other security agencies for necessary action because without information, the police cannot know what is happening in every location.

Hon. Adagunodo, also enjoined the citizens to furnish the security agencies with information about the whereabouts of hoodlums around their areas and remain resolute because the police is up to the task.

He implores them not to be scared because the APC has already lost grip of the nation, especially the South West and Osun  state in particular. Osun has become a reference point in the whole world where APC is desperate to force itself on the people as demonstrated during the last governorship election and since it has become too glaring that the entire world is focusing on Osun State,  they have imported thugs in Mobile Police Uniforms to scare people away with sporadic shooting everywhere ahead of the elections.

State Chairman,

Osun State Chapter.

Akpabio Disassociates Self From Appreciation Letter To Buhari's Chief of Staff

Former Governor of Akwa Ibom, Senator Godswill Akpabio has dismissed the claim of him publishing a letter of calumny by his person showing gratitude to the people of Akwa Iboms for Supporting the State APC which spells mockery.
Responding to such letter, he wrote: The attention of the former Senate Minority Leader and Senator representing Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District, Senator Godswill Akpabio, CON has been drawn to a forged letter purportedly written by him to the Chief of Staff to the President titled: “Gratitude for your marvelous support to Akwa Ibom APC” and making the rounds in the social media.

We wish to state categorically that the letter never emanated from the Distinguished Senator Godswill Akpabio. It is a poorly crafted piece of forgery and the figment of the imagination of the authors.

A cursory look at the letter reveals the fakeness of the contents. For instance, the complimentary closing line reads, “Yours sincerely” and “Yours faithfully” in one letter!

With an imminent defeat in the coming polls, we have always known that desperate politicians will be up to some tricks to gain some political mileage, but we never imagined they could go to the extent of committing forgery just to malign an opponent.

Fortunately, the perpetrators are not ghosts. We have alerted security agencies to be on the look out for those who have either published or shared the sham document for an invitation to shed more light on its source.

Once again, we wish to assure the teeming supporters of Senator Godswill Akpabio and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State and beyond to remain focused, steadfast and unshaken in their commitment to resoundingly vote for President Muhammadu Buhari and all candidates of the party in the coming elections.

According to the immortal words of the great Spanish writer, Miguel de Cervantes, “truth will rise above falsehood as oil above water.”

“It is statistically impossible for Buhari to Defeat Atiku”- Segun Showunmi

The spokesman for the Atiku Abubakar Campaign Organization, Segun Showunmi, on Tuesday declared that it was impossible for the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, President Muhammadu Buhari to defeat his main opponent, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party in the presidential election slated for Saturday.

Showunmi also denied ever predicting that Buhari would win, as he claimed that an audio purported to have been his voice was doctored to suit the purpose of the APC. He accused leaders of the APC of “elevating falsehood.

Below is Showunmi’s statement as shared on his Twitter handle:
“My attention has been called to a manipulated fake news (doctored audio) by @APCNigeria trolls. However, I refuse to indulge the howling of sponsored trolls.
Fact is, my statement in a radio interview in response to why the @OfficialPDPNig rested its campaigns for 72hrs on the Justice Onnoghen issue was that "it is statistically impossible for @MBuhari to defeat @atiku in the 2019 general elections.”

On many occasions, I have wondered why the @APCNigeria narrative has so far consistently failed to gain traction aside the fact that they have performed poorly in all material particulars.

The main reason in my opinion is that the handlers of the @APCNigeria and their leaders have elevated lies, rumours and propaganda to the highest levels, and the flip side of this, aside that it is indecorous and out rightly unacceptable in descent environments is that it makes believability of anything @APCNigeria puts out difficulty to take.

As spokesperson of the Atiku Abubakar Campaign, I have been civil, honest, circumspect, truthful, dignified and moderate in the execution of this assignment.

I am cognizant of the fact that we have a shared vision as citizens of the greatest country in the world, with potential to be even much greater. I also recognize that we must try to make the narrative-space less toxic for all, as all we are trying to do is promote our agenda.

You just need to look at the clips from the @MBuhari rallies and compare them to the @atiku rallies. Look at their Lagos rally, look at the show of shame in Ogun where they practically hulled stones, and objects at themselves under the supervision of their candidate @MBuhari, and then compare it to @atiku in Kano, Port Harcourt and all other locations in Nigeria.

I repeat, it is statistically impossible for @MBuhari to win the 2019 elections. He cannot even achieve it by rigging for it is too late.

The citizens of our beloved country have moved on to a leader whose agenda they can connect with. All that is left is to encourage @MBuhari to realize that there is life after Aso Rock.

In any case, Nigerians also hope he realizes the need to attend to his failing health even as history can still be kind to him if he redeems himself at the 13th hour.

And in case he allows himself to be destroyed by a bunch of incompetent rascals who wish to push him into interfering and manipulating the 2019 elections, may armageddon not befall our country on the behest of @MBuhari and the desperations of the cabal that have held him captive for the better part of the last 4 years.

For the umpteen time, I repeat, it is statistically impossible for @MBuhari to defeat @atiku in 2019.

I urge all our supporters, all Nigerians at home and in the diaspora and indeed all men and women of voting age with PVC to go out and vote, also to wait and have their votes counted and see to it that the results reflect what is recorded.

One thing we must not forget, the peace and progress of our beloved Nigeria is too important a task at this juncture than the howling of paid trolls nor the whistling of birds.

Let’s get Nigeria working again. Atiku/Obi will get the job done and we all will give them the needed support”

Why PDP Candidate For Uyo Federal Constituency Michael Enyong May Be Disqualified Over Fraud Scandal

The Peoples Democratic Party's candidate and the honourable representing Uyo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Michael O. Enyong (aka Baba Ntan), risks being disqualified from seeking re-election for failure to disclose his past criminal records and convictions in his affidavit filed in support of his personal particulars of persons seeking election to the office/membership of the House of Representatives.
A certified true copies of the case information from Fort Bend County, Texas, USA, shows Michael O. Enyong had pleaded guilty to a case of theft and accordingly sentenced. He failed to disclose this in INEC form sworn on oath. It is averred that Hon Michael Enyong had knowingly concealed the fact of his conviction from his constituents to circumvent the law which conviction occurred less than 10 years to the time he sought for and got elected into the Federal House of Representatives.
In Suit No: CV/1017/19 filed at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, his challenger Hon. Ekerete Ekpenyong is seeking the disqualification of Hon Enyong on the grounds of being an ex-convict and that he lied on oath having been sentenced in a criminal case of theft which he had been charged and pleaded guilty by a court in Ford Bend County, Texas, USA.
The Claimant is seeking a declaration that Hon Michael Enyong is not qualified to contest the 2019 election into the House of Representatives seat having circumvented the law by lying on oath and failing to disclose his past criminal records and convictions.
Hon Ekerete Ekpenyong is also seeking a declaration of the Court declaring vacant the Federal House of Representatives representing Uyo/Uruan/Nsit Atai/Ibesikpo Asutan Federal Constituency currently being occupied by Hon Michael Enyong and also an order directing the Independent National Electoral Commission to withdraw the certificate of return issued to Hon Michael Enyong  in 2015, and withdraw his candidature for the 2019 elections.
The claimant is also seeking an order of the court directing that Hon Michael Enyong immediately after delivery of judgment in the suit repay back to the coffers of the Federal Government of Nigeria all salaries and allowances he has received as a Member of the House of Representatives between 2015 – 2019.
Hon Michael Enyong also committed perjury by lying on oath about his age and academic qualifications. For instance, according to information he provided on his Form CF001 he gave his date of birth as 31 August 1969 in his affidavit sworn to at the High Court Registry, Abuja dated 15thAugust 2018, when indeed, he was born on December 25, 1961.
The lawmaker also claimed that he has a PH.D in Environmental Engineering from Warren National University without any record of having done a Masters Degree anywhere having acquired a Bachelor of Science degree, Second Class Hons) Lower Division in Applied Chemistry from the University of Uyo in 1999.
According to legal analysts, the case against Hon Michel Enyong is water tight and PDP in Uyo Federal Constituency may be without a candidate in the forth coming National Assembly elections if the Court upholds the arguments of the Claimant to disqualify Hon Enyong on the grounds of being an ex-convict and that he lied on oath having been sentenced in a criminal case of theft which he had been charged and pleaded guilty by a court in Ford Bend County, Texas, USA. Additionally, the contradictions in his birth certificates and sworn affidavits and his questionable educational qualifications may further lead to his disqualification.
