Ojude Oba, Durbar and Musawa’s African Grammy | By Festus Adedayo

Last Tuesday’s cultural display of the Ijebu people of   Ogun State   in their yearly Ojude Oba festival caught the eyes of the world. Translated as Festival of the King’s Courtyard, it has over the years been one of the most glamorous cultural and spiritual festivals held in Nigeria for over a century now. Many people have queried the rich sartorial depth and affluence of the Ijebu in the midst of Nigeria’s national ferment. Among Yoruba festivals, the glitz and colours associated with this festival place it outside the ranks of any cultural festival in Nigeria. Usually held to coincide with the Islamic Eid-l-adha ceremony, the festival holds on its third day. Oral historical accounts put the emergence of the festival to Chief Kuku Oduyingbo, who later became Balogun of Ijebu, and or Imam Tunwatoba. 2 ex-bankers arrested for stealing dead customer's money in Makurdi

T he Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested two former staff of Union Bank in Makurdi for allegedly stealing the sum of N14m belonging to a dead customer. Makurdi Command of the anti-graft agency arrested Idah Ogoh and Agbo Okwute on Friday, 21 June, 2024 in Makurdi, Benue State. A statement by EFCC on its social media page stated that arrest followed a petition against them by the bank on  fraudulent debits on a deceased customer,  Emmanuel Azer Agenna’s  account. According to the statement, the suspects' dealings were uncovered when family approached the bank for the balance on the account of the deceased for probate processing. Defamation: Davido's lawyer writes Dammy Krane, demands retraction

Afrobeat singer, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has written to his colleague in the industry, Oyindamola Johnson Emmanuel, a.k.a. Dammy Krane, over an alleged defamatory posts on social media. Davido, through his lawyer, Chikaosolu Ojukwu, stated that Dammy Krane defamed him in several posts on his X (formerly Twitter) page @dammy_krane, and had asked for retraction and also demanded that the artist desist from further posts. This is coming few hours to the wedding date between Davido and Chioma-the two lovebirds, reports said, will be having the final stage of their marriage ceremony on the 25th of June, 2024. However, in the letter dated June 21, Davido demanded that Dammy Krane, within 24 hours, remove and retract the offensive posts from all his social media pages. It also asked the singer to immediately refrain from further posting defamatory statements against the complainant on any platform.
