Revealed! Exclusive details of burial rites for late Imo lawmaker, Arthur Egwim

The burial rites of popular Imo politician, Rt. Hon. Barrister Innocent Arthur Egwim began last Friday in Lagos.

Egwim passed on a few weeks ago at the age of 60, after a brief illness.

The popular socialite was untill his death, the lawmaker representing Ideato North Constituency of the Imo state House of Assembly.


On Friday, May 12, 2023, a Service of Songs at St. Leo's Catholic Church in Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria, served as the start of his burial ceremonies.

A Vigil liturgy held at St. Thomas Moore Catholic Church in New Owerri on Monday, May 15, 2023.

Another singing service will be held at his home in Udenna Estate, New Owerri, on Tuesday, May 16, 2023.

A Valedictory Session would take place at 9 a.m. on May 17, 2023, at the Imo State House of Assembly Complex in Owerri.

The sole administrator of Ideato North LGA in Imo State will host a reception the next day, Thursday, 18 May, 2023.

He will be honored at a reception on 19 May, 2023, at HRH Eze Dr. R.A. Offonze, Ezedike II's palace.

Then, there would be Lying-In-State in his compound, Ikwaraoson-Wanneya Village, Isiokpo.

Following that, the Central Executives of the ITU, led by the President, Chief Barrister Udebuluzo Ikezuagu (Ochiagha Isiokpo), will host a reception at the Isiakpo Civic Center.

Another Lying-In-State would take place at the Isiokpo Civic Center after this.

There would be a Requiem Mass immediately after at St. John's Catholic Church in Isiokpo. Reception of guests follows after the Mass.

Additionally, relatives, acquaintances, and well-wishers will pay a funeral visit on Saturday, 20 May, 2023. While a Thanksgiving Service would hold on Sunday 21, May, 2023, at St. John's Catholic Church in Isiokpo.

Egwim in his lifetime was a lawyer, an entrepreneur and a philanthropist.

Despite his education and exposure, Egwim was quite social. He was the darling of many musicians. Especially the Nigerian popular Fuji star, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal aka K1 De Ultimate.

After a blossom career in the private sector, Egwim was elected as Imo State of Assembly member in 2015 on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He was reelected into the assembly in 2019 under the Action Alliance (AA).

He sponsored a good number of Bills and Motions on the floor of the Imo State House of Assembly for the benefits of his constituents and the state generally.
