Since the news of her shocking transition on October 19, 2016 hit journalists like a bolt, Bola Davies’ friends and associates have been expressing shock at the sudden passage of City People Magazine’s Oyo/Osun Bureau Chief.
As they try to overcome the shock, Bola Davies’ committee of friends in Ibadan and across the South-West have decided to honour the departed soul in their own little way to celebrate the impactful life both as a professional and a private citizen.
The event has been slated for 10 am on Wednesday November 2, 2016, at Mauve 21 Event Centre, Adeoyo Junction, MKO Abiola Way (formerly Ring Road) Ibadan.
Late Ms. Bolanle Olufunke Davies was born into the family of the Late Olu of Alayere, His Royal Highness, Oba (Rev’d) Joseph Olatunde Ogunsuyi in Akure, Ondo State. She attended St. Louis Nursery and Primary School, Akure, Ondo State after which she proceeded to Federal Government Girls College, Akure, for her secondary education and O'Level Certificate.
She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in English Language from the then Ondo State University now University of Ado Ekiti. Her thirst for more knowledge made her proceed to the University of Lagos (UNILAG) for her Masters Degree in English Language and finished at age 21.
Her first job was with the defunct Bellview Airlines, after which she cut her teeth in journalism over 18 years ago.
Bola Davies began as a reporter at Nigeria's number one Soft-Sell journal, City People Magazine in 2002 and with her meritorious contributions to the magazine, she rose through ranks to become Assistant Editor and the Bureau Chief in charged of South-West zone.
Bola had the extraordinary ability to uncover the hottest news, and knew how to report it.
Added to her eloquence, her journalistic expertise ran the entire gamut of news reporting from hard news, to soft news, interviews, features and investigative reporting.
She was a well-rounded journalist, seasoned, knowledgeable, sensitive, and relentless in her pursuit for news.
'Bolle', as she was fondly called was in her lifetime 'full of life', elegant, jovial and a go-getter.
To her family members, she was an amazing and cherished daughter, a beloved sister, a caring aunty, a dear niece and a lovely cousin.
To her friends, colleagues and close associates, she was a great company. One of Bola's favourite statements (she said it was a Hasidic saying) which she often shared with one of her sisters was, "every human being should carry two sheets of paper, one in each pocket. One should be the words : "For my sake the world was created." The other one should be the words, " I am but dust and ashes."
Bola Davies died on Wednesday 19th October, 2016, at age of 49, after a battle with an illness.
