But for a whisker, the Ife East Constituency lawmaker-elect into the Osun State House of Assembly, Mr. Akinwole Akinwale would have been killed by hoodlums yesterday.
Akinwole was attacked by some people suspected to be political tugs on Monday, at the Osun State office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), after he had collected his Certificate of Return on Monday.
The honourable-elect was said to have been waylaid by his attackers while coming out of the INEC, but was later rescued by the policemen on duty at the premises of INEC. The situation got so bad that Akinwole had his cloths tore in the process.
While speaking with some journalists later, Akinwole accused a former commissioner from Ife of being responsible for his attack. He said he had received several warnings before then that he would not be allowed to collect the Certificate of Return, but he didn't take the threat seriously.
He stated that, according to information at his disposal, the boys were instructed to shoot him if he insisted on collecting Certificate of Return.
