Reports reaching us have it that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Suleiman Abba has been sacked by President Goodluck Jonathan, while Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), Mr. Solomon Arase as Acting Inspector-General of Police.
The termination of appointment and new appointment which takes immediate effects, was revealed by the Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity, Reuben Abati on his twitter handle @abati1990 this afternoon.
Before his appointment, the new Acting Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Arase was the Head of the Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department.
He holds Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Law, as well as Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Political Science and Strategic Studies.
He is also a Fellow of the Nigerian Defence College.
This latest development however gave credence to the story that has been flying about on the social media that President Goodluck Jonathan was under pressure to sack Abba.
Reasons for this according to the reports, was unconnected to the Jonathan's defeat in the just concluded presidential election.
He was said to have acted against the wish of PDP and the instructions given to him as far as the March 28 presidential election was concerned.
Abba, according reports, acted based on the oath of office he took, in discharging his duties accordingly during and after the election. Thereby refused to act the script written by his bosses.
