Recall that the presidential
candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Commander-In-Chief of
the Armed Forces of Nigeria, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan last week
Friday, the 6th of March, 2015, visited the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade
Sijuade, Olubuse 11, for his support in the coming rescheduled general
elections.
That was the second visit of
Mr. President to the revered monarch in the recent time, in his bid to ganna
more support from the South-West. During the visit, over fifty prominent monarchs
in Osun State gathered, pointed their staff of offices at Jonathan and rained
royal blessings on him, for his success in the coming elections.
Since that Friday, the visit
have been however generating so much controversy on the social media and
facebook. While some see President Jonathan’s move as good development, as a
sign of respect for royalty, some have described such move as a desperate one. They
argued that Jonathan’s visit and the paparazzi that followed was just a child’s
play. As they claimed there is nothing like pointing staff of office at someone
for royal blessings in Yoruba land
In their opinion, in Yoruba
land, horsetail is what royal fathers use to bless someone and not staff of
office. They believed it has a different meaning when staff of office is being
used to proffer a mirage blessing on someone.
However, Mr. President has
visited the Ooni and he is being fortified by over 50 monarchs from Osun State.
But the potency of such royal blessings is now left for God and destiny.
