Wole Arisekola Hails Minister Of Marine & Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola At 70

The National Chairman of the Association of Online Media Practitioners in Nigeria (AMPCON), Mogaji Wole Arisekola has congratulated the Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy and  former Governor of Osun State, Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola, CON, on the occasion of his 70th birthday; describing him as an epitome of courage, dignity, and character. Mogaji Arisekola on Sunday in a congratulatory statement personally signed by him said Oyetola does not stand out among his peers only by the nobility but also by “his enormous gift of garb, wits, and inner stamina”. The media personality further noted that Oyetola had always been elderly in conduct and wisdom hailed the minister as a man with “native intelligence and philosophical conviction”. He said it is not surprising that the former governor has emulative characters because he is a man “well-rooted in corporate courtesies and has an epaulet full of garlands and medals in all his life's endeavors and careers”. The Wayo imprisonment of Bobrisky | By Festus Adedayo

On February 18, 1947, the Daily Service newspaper published a story whose theme, like the ancient Secretarybird, has remained with Nigeria ever since. It is a story of the affinity between sex and corruption. Son of Alake of Egbaland and a no-nonsense judge, Justice Adetokunbo Ademola, then of the Lagos Santa Anna Magistrate Court, presided over the matter. After the wotowoto of the prosecution and defence, Ademola sentenced a female welfare officer, Ayodele Potts-Johnson, to six months imprisonment, without an option of fine.  Potts-Johnson’s crime was demanding and collecting bribes of the sums of #5.30s and 25s.2d. from two prostitutes, Elizabeth Agadagwu and Alice George, in order to stave them off the wrath of the law. Christened by the Nigerian press of the time a “sensational celebrated official corruption,” the scandal had famous African and British lawyers, led by FRA Williams, and which included E. A. Akerele, J.A. Kester, N.O.A Morgan and V.O Munis, as defence counsel. In hi

While death is a debt that all men must pay, some deaths however come with a lot of surprises. One of such is Adeola's. Of course, it was very hard to be believe that Princess Adeola, who was full of life with no sign of any kind of sickness whatsoever during her mum's burial

I think Tinubu was right | By Festus Adedayo

One by one, three Nigerian former military rulers, Olusegun Obasanjo, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar, arrived at Babangida’s Hilltop Mansion in Minna, Niger State, last Sunday. So did former National Security Adviser (NSA), General Aliyu Gusau. The Minna meeting had every trapping of African witches assembling at the coven. Like owls, a pervasive symbol of African witchcraft, did they fly to and perch on their Minna assembly nest at nocturne? Yoruba attribute the kind of powers this trio had/have to witches. They eat the head from the arm and masticate the heart from the liver. In any case, age and interminable presence in the theatre of Nigerian governance should qualify the trio as witches. Yoruba, for instance, approximates age to witchcraft. T’óbìnrin bá pé Å„lé, àjé níí dà they say. When the Minna ‘witches’ were done, like witches who leave their covens lips-sealed, the meeting was without communiqué. In the 1970s, Yoruba Adawa music exponent, Dele Abiodun, gav

Meet Ibadan's 10 Big Real Estate Players

The real estate sector in Oyo State, especially Ibadan, the capital city, is currently experiencing what could best be described as a mega boom. Thanks to the few investors who saw the vision years back and keyed into it by contributing their quotas to the development of the sector. Kudos also to the Governor Seyi Makinde-led administration in the state for creating an enabling environment (the successive governments couldn't be excused from the success story too). Not only has Makinde's administration created an enabling environment, it has introduced some investors-friendly policies, and as well undertook partnerships that had really helped in bringing about the unprecedented developments in the sector. This has also created room for options for those who are interested in both luxury and low cost estates. Its also explains reasons for the many real estate projects (both completed and ongoing) all over the place. There are developments and construction almost everywhere in Ib

Who stole the Yoruba python skin? By Festus Adedayo

One of the thematic preoccupations of the book, What the forest told me: Yoruba hunter, culture and narrative performance, (2014) is that, inside the forest, there is a consistent superiority war, often fierce, between man and animals. Written by Ayo Adeduntan, Research Fellow at the University of Ibadan, the book averred that, while animals sometimes win this war, succeeding in crushing hunters for supper, many atimes, hunters vanquish these forest dwellers. They fell these notorious animals renowned for bathing in the blood of their human victims. In pursuit of this theme of a superiority duel in the wild, Adeduntan was in a forest called Ìgbẹ́ Alágogo. Hunting expeditions to the Ìgbẹ́ are seasonal excursions that take hunters to Ã’j̣é-̣Owódé in the Ã’kè Ã’gùn area of Oyo State. There, Adeduntan interviewed a hunter called Ã’jó Ã’gúnkúnlé of Agúnrege village. Ã’gúnkúnlé’s narration of how his hunter-master, named Ã’gúnòṣ̣un, a very powerful hunter, married a buffalo and was eventually d
