He based this on the fact that the party has performed wonderfully well in the last sixteen years. Especially his administration which he said has opened up the various sectors of the economy and enabling more Nigerians to be involved in the economy of the country.
In his words,“On behalf of all of us who are contesting, I thank you because when you market the party, you are marketing the candidates. You are doing well for our party.
“PDP is not just the largest party in Nigeria, but it is the only party that has members at all voting units. There is no other party whether two, three four, five parties coming together, they cannot reach that level. PDP has members in every voting unit in this country.
Meanwhile, Mr. President whose ranking was very low in the conducted opinion poll before now has bounced back to close the margin between him and the All Progressive Congress (APC), general Muhammadu Buhari. According to the official report from March 1 opinion polls,Buhari is nowleading with 51% and the PDP candidate, Jonathan coming strong with 49%.
The poll, which was carried out by seasoned journalists and members of the Association of Online Media Practitioners asked many people who they would vote for between President Jonathan and Gen. Buhari. It turned out that President Jonathan is gaining more in the estimation of people and there is confidence amongst those spoken to that he has the capacity to qu
ell the Boko Haram insurgency in the country.
This is coming after the president’s meeting with several groups and most recently, the youths in Lagos on Sunday, March 1, 2015.
Some steps taken by the President lately are also believed to have worked to his advantage. Such include the newly intensified war against terror, leading to the retaking of territories that had been lost to Boko Haram insurgents.
President Jonathan has also stepped up his act as the Commander-in-Chief, visiting troops at the front. He has also used the opportunity of the 6-week postponement of the general elections to intensify consultations with traditional rulers and leaders across the geo-political zones.
