Taoviq Olatunji, an Ibadan based businessman, has narrated how he almost died in the hands of a United States returnee, whose name was given as Omotoyosi Adebayo. Olatunji had gone to a hotel (Harrington Inn) around Old Bódìjà area of Ibadan for a party on the evening of Saturday, 14th May when trouble broke out between the US returnee and one other guest. According to Olatunji, he was only trying to make peace when Mr Adebayo attacked him and  instructed his soldier bodyguard to beat him up. Speaking further, the victim disclosed that efforts of other guests to prevent the attack proved futile. The scuffle was reported at the Housing Police Station, Bódìjà, Ibadan after which Olátúnjí went to the hospital for treatment. While police operatives are making frantic efforts to get Adebayo and his bodyguard, there are insinuations that he might have left Nigeria for Texas where he is based.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reacted to $2m bribery allegation raised against its chairman, Abdulraeheed Bawa.  Bello Matawalle, the governor of Zamfara state, had earlier accused the chairman of the anti-graft agency of demanding two million dollars bribe from him. He made the allegation during an interview with BBC Hausa on Friday, amid the ongoing rift between the governor and EFCC. The anti-graft agency has however described Matawalle's claims as tactic of a drowning man. "Matawalle's recourse to mudslinging is symptomatic of a drowning man clutching at straws. But despite the irritation of his phantom claims, the Commission will not be drawn into a mud fight with a suspect under its investigation for corruption and unconscionable pillage of the resources of his state.
