President Muhammadu Buhari has written to the National Assembly today, February 5, 2017, informing them of his desire to extend his leave in order to complete and receive the results of a series of tests recommended by his doctors. This notice according to Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to Mr. President on Media and Publicity, has since been sent to the Senate President and Speaker of House of Representatives. "Mr. President expresses his sincere gratitude to Nigerians for their concern, prayers and kind wishes," he stated. The development however dashed the hope of many Nigerians who had been anxiously waiting for Buhari's arrival from U.K, where he been on leave and medical check-up. The President had planned to return to Abuja this evening, but was said to have been advised to complete the test cycle before returning.
