Why coalition of political parties in Osun are angry with Gov. Adeleke - Chairman, Tosin Odeyemi speaks
A chieftain of Osun State chapter of the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP), Dr Tosin Odeyemi has been in a war of words with the handlers of the state's governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, lately.
Odeyemi is the Chairman of Osun NNPP and the Chairman of all Chairmen of the party in Nigeria. He's also the Chairman of coalition of political parties that are against Governor Adeleke in Osun State.
Odeyemi, who said he was speaking on behalf of the coalition, has insisted that Governor Adeleke is yet to kick start most of his campaign promises before the last election.
The governor's CPS, Rasheed Olawale, however, described Odeyemi as a clout chaser who is looking for government patronage.
It was as result of this faceoff that City People's Dare Adeniran seeked an audience with Dr Odeyemi to speak on why he's been criticising Governor Adeleke-led administration in the state.
In the course of the interview, Odeyemi restated his party's plan to unseat Governor Adeleke in the next election.

What exactly is your grouse (s) with Governor Adeleke and his government?
It's a very simple thing. The expectation we had when he was campaigning was so high. I could remember vividly that he promised a lot of things that he's yet to even kick start.
Like I was asking recently on a radios station with one of his spokespersons, I said tell me what he has started and completed. He's not doing what is expected of him as a governor of the state.
I don't want to start talking about the executive meeting meant for every member of his cabinet to take decisions. If he doesn't do that, maybe that is his own style of governance. But the truth is what has he done?
If you tell me he pays salaries, is it not the entitlement of the civil servants? If you say he's paying pensioners, it is their entitlements. Okay, look at the subsidy of a thing what has he done to help the masses.
He gave civil servants N15,000 and pensioners N10,000. What will such amount buy in this economic situation that a bowl of rice is sold between N2,700 and N2,000?
Again, what is the population of the state that made you feel that once you are done with the civil servants and pensioners then you have fulfilled destiny? What about other citizens of the state?
Let me take you back to memory lane, the governor brought out buses meant to help the masses with cheaper transportation rate. The buses could only be seen in Osogbo. And I asked, what happened to Ilesa? What happened to Ife? What is the faith of Ikire, Ire and other towns? Are there not human beings there?
Months back, you stopped the O' yes, which engages the youths and replaced it with Imole Corps. People obtained the forms but as I speak with you now they have not been employed.
What has he done cushion the negative effects of subsidy removal! That he unveiled the VIP lounge that was at 35% stage completion when Aregbesola lett. I'm asking about his own agenda. Because I can assure you that by next year there will be primary everywhere. Once he gets the ticket for second term I can tell you that the next thing is campaign. He will just leave governance and start campaign for second term.
The governor's spokesman alleged that you are criticizing the governor for clout and probably to get government patronage?
Well, every governor or leader should expect criticism. And I'm not criticising him based on my personal interest. I said carlier that it's in the interest of the state I have no personal request from him. Not even one.
What do I need when my party has produced a governor, a deputy governor, 2 senators, we have 20 House of Reps members and over 30 House of Assembly members across board. And with my status in the party, I'm a stakeholder. So, what is it that I am expecting from the government that I can't get elsewhere?
People are hungry. I want the governor to do the needful I'm not here to fight Mr. Governor I'm saying that he should rise on his feet because there mo more time. By next year we are in for primaries. So, it's funny to say that I'm expecting patronage from the government. What am I selling that they will patronise me? Nothing.
Would you accept an offer of appointment from Governor Adeleke in the interest of the people?
No, I will not accept any appointment. I will rather appeal to the citizens of Osun to prepare to vote for NNPP at the next election. NNPP will produce a governor that would operate an open-door policies.
Is the battle all about unseating the governor or for him to perform in the interest of the people?
Yes. The door is in two ways. The governor is either buckle up and be productive within now and next year or prepare to handover.
So you will support the governor for another term if he improves on his policies?
No. I can't support the governor when I'm an ambassador of my party. I'm feeding a candidate that the governor will handover to. He's not going for second term. NNPP is taking over.
Do you think your party has the political wherewithal to win an incumbent governor at election?
I don't understand what you mean by wherewithal to win an incumbent governor. Don't we have incumbent governor that failed to be reelected. We did it Kano, and we are going repeat the same in Osun.
You said the Adeleke-led government has not executed any project but there are over 100 projects listed on the website?
Let me remind you that there are intervention grants that is mandated to be used for a certain projects. If you are to go by this there will be a lot. But I'm talking about what he started.
Recently he said he's doing N100 billion infrastructure, flyover bridges here and there. Of what importance is it? It's a man that eats well that rides a car. We are talking of hunger, not bringing programs to enrich a certain set of people.
What areas do you think Governor Adeleke should improve on as far as governance is concerned?
Firstly, the governor should. look at how to help a common man. Stomach infrastructure.. Mobility that can help the masses.
He should provide basic social amenities that will bring succour to all and sundry. The governor should also engaged more brains if need be in other to bring about people-oriented policies.
