The Technical University, Ibadan Matriculates Pioneer Students


The Technical University, Ibadan will, on Friday, 9th March, 2018, matriculate her pioneer set of students.  The ceremony, slated to hold in the Technical University, Ibadan, Library Hall, Km 15, Ibadan-Lagos, Expressway, will start at 9.00 am. 

A press statement signed by the Acting Registrar, Mr. A.A Oladeji to announce the University’s maiden matriculation, noted that the matriculation ceremony will be followed by the inauguration of the Governing Council and installation of the University’s pioneer Chancellor, Chief Tunde J. Afolabi, MFR. 

Chief Afolabi, a Geologist, is a major player in the oil industry, having worked with TEXACO Inc, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA and Mobil USA INC. Dallas, Texas, USA before returning home to establish Amni International Petroleum Development Company Limited, Lagos.

Among several honours for his achievements, the pioneer Chancellor of The Technical University, Ibadan is a Fellow of the Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society; Fellow, Nigeria Association of Petroleum Explorationists, a recipient of the ECOWAS Distinguished Corporate Achievers Award and an active member of the Nigerian Association of Indigenous Exploration and Production Companies.  

The statement advised that all the guests to the ceremony should be seated by 8.30 am, before the arrival of the Vice-Chancellor’s procession. 

The matriculation, which is expected to attract dignitaries from all walks of life, will also feature student performances, including a performance by the new Tech-U Band. 

The Technical University, an initiative of the Oyo State Government, is committed to efficient and responsible use of Science, Technology and Engineering for innovations targeted at solving societal problems. 

As part of the ceremonies, the statement added that there will be a Pre-Matriculation Lecture, which will hold at 3.00 pm on Thursday 8th March, 2018 at The Technical University Library Hall. 

The Lecture, titled “Symbols, Symbolisms and The University Culture”, will be delivered by a renowned Professor of International Relations, Professor W. Alade Fawole who became a full Professor of International Relations at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife in October 2003. The Matriculation Lecturer has more than 60 academic publications to his credit. 

In his career spanning nearly 35 years, Professor Alade Fawole has served the Obafemi Awolowo University in various capacities including Dean, Faculty of Administration, (2008-2010) and member of the Governing Council, Obafemi Awolowo University, (2003-2007).
