There seems to be what could be best described as political shotgun flying about within the Oyo state political class, ahead of the coming 2019 election. If not, how can one describe the purported interrogation rumour of the CBN Deputy Governor, Bayo Adelabu, in connection with former Minister of Petroleum, Diezani Allison-Madueke's ongoing fraud case? It was claimed that Bayo Adelabu is being interrogated by the Economics and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over his involvement in a bad load said to have been awarded at the First Bank and the Diezani's saga.
This development some political watchers in the state have opined it is not unconnected with the incessant pressure on Bayor Adelabu to run for the guber race come 2019, whereas he has not made any official declaration.
The said rumour, spreading like a wild fire on several social media platforms, however, has being countered by the Agbaakin Parakoyi of Ibadanland, Chief Adebayo Adelabu's camp. They said the rumour is untrue and uncalled for and handiwork of Adelabu's political enemies in the state. A member of the group who doesn't want his name mentioned stated that left for Bayo Adelabu, he will not respond to such unfounded fallacy of some unscrupulous elements who are somehow threatened by Adelabu's influence in Oyo state and beyond.
"This is expected and perhaps the only way they feel they can discredit Bayo's rising profile and increasing popularity. They are threatened by Bayo's family antecedents, intimidating profile, academic excellence, professional exposure and peoples' love for him, because of his contributions to the economic development of Oyo state, through personal investments and identification with the youths and masses of the state through various philanthropic activities.
They are also probably jealous of his closeness to the executive governor of Oyo state, Senator Isiaq Abiola Ajimobi. Being Chairman of the Oyo State Security Trust Fund and Chairman of the Governing Board of Lagelu Grammar School (the Alma Mater of the incumbent Governor).
It is obvious that Bayo Adelabu has the respect of his people and excellent personality and an enviable records; his track record at the First Bank where he served for several years as E.D and presently in CBN are very good. And nobody can tarnish his hard-earned image.
I tell you this is just a kind of distraction and they will soon be tired of spreading all these Lies and rumours when people find out they have noting substantial to talk about," he stated.
