Oyo Holds Town Hall Meeting Thursday, Launches Education Policy.

The Oyo State Government will hold a town hall meeting on Thursday, December 1, 2016 to update the citizens about the recent developments in the state and to formally present its new education policy as contained in the recently released White Paper on the report of a Committee on Participatory Management of Schools to review the educational status of the State.

The state commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr. Toye Arulogun who made this disclosure in a statement in Ibadan on Tuesday, said that the town hall meeting which will give the citizens the opportunity to have robust deliberations with Governor Abiola Ajimobi and his team  will hold at the University of Ibadan Conference Centre by 10am.

Arulogun stated that the government believes in engaging its stakeholders on its policies and activities saying that the government is ready to fully implement the White Paper Gazetted publication of the Oyo State Government No.26 Vol 41 which has led to the creation of School Governing Board (SGB) that will provide management functions for each secondary school in the state to meet performance target and improve the quality of the state’s education sector.

The government spokesman emphasized that the deteriorating standards in Public Schools has led to loss of faith among the population and the consignment of mass exodus of pupils from public to prate schools, adding “it is therefore not out of place at this stage of our development to re-evaluate, re-orientate and restore our public school system and take measures to revolutionize their operation for the ultimate good of the society.”

“To this end, the SGB model which would be in two categories with membership drawn from accredited representative of Parent-Teacher Association, accredited representative of Old Students’ Association, accredited non-partisan Community leader, the Head Boy/Head Girl of the school, the School Principal to serve as Secretary, the Local Inspector of Education (LIE), representative of Local Govt. Council/LCDA and identified philanthropists is expected to improve the Quality of school programmes.

“The SGB shall also see to the efficiency of teachers and thereby raising students’ achievement level, provision of adequate teaching and learning resources, full participation of stakeholders in management and effective management of schools among others,” the commissioner stressed.

Arulogun said that the School’s Governing Board (SGB) will be mandated to make efforts to resuscitate school sports and games and improve Information and Communication Technology (lCT) education in Oyo State in order to meet up with the global revolution in lCT, explaining that the era of thousands of students failing WAEC Examination will be a thing of the past.

He further added that all stakeholders in the education sector are invited to be part of this epoch making event that is expected to herald the government's commitment to revive the education sector in the state.

Its also explains reasons for the many real estate projects (both completed and ongoing) all over the place. There are developments and construction almost everywhere in Ib
