PDP Acting Chair, Ali Modu-Sheriff's Ambition Tears South-West Wing Of The Party Apart.- As We Now Have Two Factions.
The inordinate ambition of the Acting Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ali Modu-Sheriff to emerge as chairman of the party in its coming national convention, against his earlier promise to handover to new person at the convention, is beginning to have negative effects on the party, especially in the South-West zone.
Already, the leadership of the party in the zone are divided. While some are backing the ambition of Modu Sheriff to emerge, many have seriously come against it. As we now have two parallel groups; Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State/Senator Kashamu Buruji and others and Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State/Chief Bode George and others.
Those in Bode George's group are not happy with the present zoning arrangement of the party which zones Chairmanship and Presidential slots of the party to the North and the national secretary, national publicity secretary and national auditor are zoned to South-West.
It is reported that two parallel meetings has been mixed for today; one in Akure, the Ondo State capital and Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State. The one in Ijebu-Igbo would be chair by Gov. Ayo Fayose while the one in Akure have Gov. Mimiko as chief convener.
Both meetings we gathered, is to discuss the coming national convention of the party and probably to resolve some other issues. We shall serve you with the details of outcome of their meetings later today.
