"Omisore Cannot Be Blackmailed"-Osun PDP Spokesman, Diran Odeyemi Explodes..As EFCC Declares The Politician Wanted.
Based on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)'s action on Tuesday, May 24,2016, where it declared wanted, the former deputy governor of Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, spokesperson of the Osun State chapter of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Diran Odeyemi has responded.
On why Omisore didn't honour EFCC's invitation, Odeyemi stated that "EFCC was in court to seek for extension of time for the suit filed against Omisore and the MD of Fimex Glit has indemnified him concerning their contract with the ONSA." In fact, the company even sued for the balance owed them. There was no issue of N700m anywhere.
The relationship between the company and ONSA is civil and contractual. EFCC should not play the role of political victimisation and coercion. "Omisore cannot be stampeded or be oppressed by any government in Nigeria. Blackmail won’t help EFCC Rather they should come to court with facts”.
Odeyemi continued that “this act of EFCC is unpatriotic and won’t get them any result. How can EFCC declare Omisore that was in court with EFCC officials at 9am today 24th May, wanted the same day? The world and human rights community are hereby called upon to caution EFCC from tarnishing Omisore’s image”, he submitted.
Meanwhile, EFCC based its decision to declare Omisore wanted on the fact that he refused to appear before the commission upon invitation extended to him. EFCC said the politician had ealier been been invited to come and explain his involvement In a case of receiving and misappropriating the sum of over N700, 000,000.00 (#700m) from the Office of the National Security Adviser, between June and November, 2014.
According to the commission, “Omisore has been elusive and refused to report to the Commission after invitation was extended to him on April 7, 2016 requesting him “to come and make clarification on the ongoing investigation”.
Instead of responding to the Commission’s investigation Omisore had approached the Federal Capital Territory High Court for the enforcement of his fundamental human rights. Justice Husseini Baba Yusuf consequently ordered that Omisore should only be arrested through a due and legal process”, the commission stated.
The EFCC thereafter obtained a warrant to effect the arrest of the politician.
