By tomorrow 24th April, 2015, the amiable publisher of the most popular soft-sell magazine in the country, City People Magazine, Seye Kehinde will be 50 years of age.
And to celebrate this, there would be a church service at the Times Squares Event Centre, 27, Ajao Road, Off Adeniyi Jones Avenue, Ikeja, Lagos, by 10am. Reception follows thereafter at the same venue.
As expected, this event is going to be gathering of the A-list celebrities from all walks of life.
However, one must not but say one or two things about the 'birthday boy', Seye Kehinde; his background, his life and achievements.
Seye Kehinde, born April 24, 1965, to Civil Servants parents from Ishara-Remo, Ogun State. He graduated from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife with a Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science. He also has a post graduate Diploma in Journalism.
After his Youth Service at Kwara Polytechnic, Ilorin in 1986, he worked for Herald newspapers from 1987 to 1988.
He later moved to Lagos and worked with Insider Weekly, published by African Confidential. Between 1988 and 89 he was with This Week, which is now ThisDay, African Concord, and Concord newspapers, in 1990.
He also worked with couple of newspapers like Vintage People, National Enquirer and others.
Sometimes in 1996, Seye Kehinde left the serious journalism for un serious journalism as some people would call it. He took a bold step to pursue his dream of floating a soft-sell magazine (junk journal) as it were being described back then.
Today, Seye Kehinde's decision to take his chances in the highly challenging journalism profession in Nigeria, by establishing City People Magazine, has yielded positive results.
He has not only been able to build the magazine into a well recognised brand, but he is also been able to sustain it over the years.
The brand has grown in leaps and bounds to become the widely read and the most popular soft-sell magazine to have survived the test of time in the history of Nigeria.
The City People Group publications include City People Magazine Weekly(Nigeria and Ghana), City People Fashion & Lifestyle, Today’s Fashion, City People Extra and the entertainment arm of the company (City People Entertainment).
He is a Fellow, Centre for Foreign Journalists and member, Nigerian Institutes of Journalism. With several recognition awards and many chieftaincy tittles to his credit, Seye Kehinde is today standing tall amongst his peers in his field.
But despite all these achievements, some people still find it difficult to understand who really is Seye Kehinde. Is he a simple man? Yes. Is he an happening person? Capital NO. What does he loves the most you may ask? The answer is work. He is a workaholic. He doesn't see himself as a publisher but a reporter. At his level, he still goes to assignments and transcribe interviews by himself.
He is a kind of man who doesn't fancy material things. In fact, his second name is simplicity. Seye Kehinde is a good listener and gives brief answer to what doesn't interest him. In this case, his answer would just be 'ok' 'yes'.
Seye Kehinde's passion for work has always been an encouragement for so many people around him. He has become a role-model to member of his staff and several young men out there.
There is no 'impossible' in his dictionary. He strongly believes challenges are abound to come along the line, but there must be always a way out of every situation.
All these, perhaps are what has been working for him as a successful man and good manager of his business. Happy birthday to S.K at 50.
