Tatsuhiko Hirano, 40, has been arrested in connection with the stabbing
attacks that led to the death of five people in the early hour of today in the
western Japanese city of Somoto, Japan, on Awaji Island. Hirano, an unemployed man,
who reports say live in the same neighbourhood with his father, attacked his
victims on a farmstead this morning.
Police found the bodies of two women in their 50s and 60s and the body
of a man in his 60s at one house at the site. While a couple in their 80s were
found dead in another building nearby. Reports say the attacker was found with
blood on his clothes and initially admitted to the killing. The motive for the
attack was however not clear.
